So it looks like we topped 4 million? Damn that's impressive. Also 400K in Melbourne is very surprising. I wonder what the GF could get with the storm involved? Either way it's better than any ratings the AFL will be getting in QLD and NSW any time soon.

The people negotiating our deal must be loving the SOO ratings at the moment.

State Of Origin decider top ratings

THE bruising State Of Origin decider has produced a knockout blow in the TV ratings - setting a new record as the highest rating game in OzTam history.

Channel 9's league showcase hit a stunning peak of 4.825 million nationally (five city metro and regional), averaging 4.041 million viewers.

The five-city average of 2.68 million viewers (growing to a peak of 3.236m) set a record both for the match and the 2012 series, which was up 10.42 per cent across the three close encounters

Not surprisingly the game scored in Sydney and Brisbane, but also pulled its biggest ever audience in AFL-dominated Melbourne.

The blockbuster figures are also a win for the NRL, which is currently negotiating a new broadcasting rights deal, with some consideration being given to selling off State Of Origin as a seperate product to the weekly national competition.

Media analyst Steve Allen noted a slight drop in Brisbane audience numbers, putting the shift down to locals crowding pubs and clubs to watch the game (where OzTam cannot measure the viewer reach).

So much for that moron Gutterfax (in TFC forum) raving on about the RWC semi-final ratings from last year. Someone needs to give that guy a big smack on the head.

4.041m nationwide for a match involving two STATES >>>>> 3.3m nationwide for a match involving two COUNTRIES

And a bigger :lol::lol::lol: at Channel 9. I'm 99% sure that will be their last ever Origin match they'll be covering for a LOOOOOONG LONG TIME. Enjoy your repeats of The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half..........Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen. When you lose the rights, I will be yelling "Sucked in for taking this game for granted over the past 20 years". Move over Ch9; come on down Ch7 or 10. Ch7/10 need to be given the opportunity to show what they can do with league in this country.

On a bigger note, the game nearly got 5m at its peak.....in the words of Gus Gould, "WOOOOOOOOOOOOW!". That is massive! Those are numbers that Andrew Demetriou, John O'Neill and Ben Buckley would die to have. The 2003 RUWC final is the only other footy event in Australia that has got similar ratings from my memory. Proves that S.O.O. is the highest rating annual football event in Australia.
