The team v Panthers

We always struggle v Penriff but. It might be tougher against a coach who knows the team too. That said, he won't know their patterns because they are not playing the same.

If we don't win this one, kiss the season goodbye and plan the end of season function. If we had have won against the tigers it was still a chance for top 4. Now thats virtually impossible. Loose this week, and the 8 is a struggle.

Good, so that's no pressure then. Us players and fans could do with an easy afternoon in the park.

Great time for NZ to play Panthers with no Grant/Lewis.

Nor Jennings. So, if we still can't win then what will that tell us?

And negative bastards like me shouldn't be stinking up the atmosphere at Penrith, but I'm still going. Of course I come good when we hit form.

That's not really true...we've beaten them the last three times and only lost one of the last six. Beat them over there last year reasonably convincingly (Locke had an absolute barnstormer) and the time before that, which was one of the greatest defensive performances I've ever seen.

And if we don't beat them without Grant, Lewis and Jennings, in a Monday night slot that suits us to the ground now with a 5:30pm local kick-off (no idea why Gould went for that) we should put the cue in the rack for 2012.

No doubt cause Monday's a public holiday, you can't have a late night at the end of a long weekend. Everyone's exhausted and getting surly about work and school, or whatever, the next day.

Personally, I wouldn't have gone if it was 7 pm start, it means after a drink at Panthers, I'd be home in Katoomba at about midnight.

And it's bleak and freezing right now too.

Yeah, that was a bit loose me saying I don't know why. I do, but it plays right into our hands.

It's that one time of year I can look out the window and report on the weather for a Warriors game.

And it's freezing, wet and miserable. Just like an Auckland Monday morning! We should feel right at home. Although, we probably don't want to have to play 'error free' football but we will. There'll be plenty of wet weather bombs (shudder).

Don't forget we got nailed by the Roosters and the Raiders this year, two poor sides we should have been putting away. The Cleary factor is something to consider too.

At least it'll mean we concede less points.

That'll be a relief, I'm sick of seeing that sh*t.

I feel terrible, it's a public holiday, I have nothing else to do, but I'm in two minds as to getting on the train down the mountain to Penrith. It's the Warriors at 'home'! I should be ashamed of myself.

And now I'm trying to over compensate by thinking about a trip across town to Cronulla on Sat. No way man, I'm gettin' down to Panthers'.

And the Panthers want to grind us down for the win. They won't win an open game in dry weather.

They're a chance here, and what horror it'd be. We couldn't guarantee a bounce against Cronulla next week either.

Oh I remember well sir. How badly we're going was summed up for me in the fact that those two sides are on the same points as us as of this moment. The Raiders have been picked for the spoon, their coach has been under intense scrutiny, yet we hear from within our camp that we're not far away and we even had an NRL preview that suggested we might sneak the top four or be in the 6-7th sort of position.

I honestly feel that 8th is the best we can hope for. We're six points off 7th as of now. We'd have to go on a run identical to 2008 to get anywhere near and I don't see it.

As for tonight, I really think it'll be tight. Ivan will be well placed to pick at our weaknesses and if we don't bar up, we've really got an uphill battle to get near the finals.

As Warriors' fans well know, there's no McIntyre system this year either. Not sure how it works now, but it's modelled on the AFL and a much harder task to advance if you don't finish top four.

It's not a day for fair weather fans, of which I am not. Luckily, from my days in NZ, I kept a checked swandri and white freezing works' gumboots for these occasions.

The sad thing is, Penrith offered a deal where for $80 you could take eight people, so a whole bunch of fans with kids will be rocking up and sitting exposed. Though I suppose that's winter footy. I reckon folks are a bit softer these days, especially the kids!

C'mon, it's game day! Where's everyone on here? Oh that's right, it's a working Monday in NZ, suckers!

So if you finish 8th, you're playing 5th in a do-or-die, then 1st or 4th, then 2nd or 3rd who won in the 1st week - all in Australia. Good luck getting through that. And remember we lost in the first week in 2007, 2010 and 2011, snuck through in 2008. Not a good omen.

Loving that it's a 7:30pm match tonight.
