And I don't give a shit if other people like Thailand. Go have fun there, enjoy it whatever. All I did was state my opinion on it and say I didn't like it. You proceeded to belittle and insult someone simply because they didn't think the same as you. That is the very definition of small-mindedness.

If someone came to me and said they didn't like Australia, well I couldn't give a shit, it's their opinion and it's not hurting anyone.

I'd f**ken kill em. Un-O-Straylian.

Sure can.

Sri lanka. Or thailand. Not sure yet.

Well, I'll be in one or the other now that my European dreams have been all but shattered by reality.

You're the admin. Can't you install one?

In Thailand? Or Sri Lanka?

I actually generally agree with most of what you post. Just not this time. No need to get all abusive over it.

Sorry, I generally agree with what you post as well, I simply got frustrated this time because of people calling me f**ked and small minded which I am anything but.

Now I get it. Country thinking.

lol yeah that's it

Lol. I actually don't even like Thailand very much. But I dislike xenophobes and bigots more

And I'm not either. I am not afraid of what is foreign or strange, and nowhere in this thread have I treated other people with hatred, contempt or intolerance. I do not hate the people of Thailand, nor do I hate their race. The only people I have treated with hatred are those that engage in child prostitution, and if that's somehow xenophobic or bigotry, then so be it.

Thailand is awesome. Been there a few times now. Never felt unsafe or alarmed while there. Never noticed any child prostitution or anything of that sort. You might see the odd 50 y/o guy with a mid 20's Thai bird walking through a hotel lobby or doing a spot of shopping together but honestly, you see that all the time in Sydney as well.

Springs, without reading through all your posts, have you ever been there?

I'll definitely keep that in mind...

Numbers aren't lining up for a European Odyssey?

Not unless I want to stop and work a bunch (which I won't have time for). Conservative estimates put it in the $10,000-$15,000 range. I can live in Thailand for quite a while on half of that.

Great thing about Thailand too Mis is it costs bugger all to visit their neighbours. Burma is opening up, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam are dirt cheap, with Malaysia and Singapore just down the road too.

Yeah, and under their visa rules you have to leave every now and then, so it's a great motivator to get out and see SEA.

Talking to a blogger friend of mine and she was saying she paid $500 a month for a killer apartment + utilities + scooter rental. I can make that in two posts from my site and not have to touch my savings.

30 days FIFO for Aust passports, 15 days for land border crossings. If you get a work visa it is much longer than that, 6 months I think. I can ask my old man if you like, him + Mum live in Thailand with different visas.

That would be helpful. I wouldn't mind having to skip across to Cambodia every now and then. Laos, Vietnam, and Burma (hell, Malaysia and Indo too) are just begging to be explored.

You can get visas at the consulate, but that means being based close to Bangkok. But be aware, it is a different length visa if you cross into Thailand by air or land/sea (air 30 days, land/sea 15 days).

Good to know. I'll likely base myself out of Chiang Mai, but it's only a day's (brutally uncomfortable) train ride from there to Bangkok.
