or an hour by plane

we got to sit in the back of an old toyota ute and dove up the Himalayas, through villages where we saw these 20 year old men that looked like they were 60 cuz they just smoke opium all day. They smoke it in front of you then hold their hand out for cash as if they are a monkey doing tricks, bastards wouldn't share tho

despite having a sore arse from the bumpy ute ride were were so high we had to look down to see the clouds

amazing experience

Holy f**k. I've got friends in Chiang Mai quoting me as low as $175 AU a month for a nice apartment.

I'm out of this country come March 31st.

I would happily live in Thailand. Don't think the missus would go for it though. Especially if we want kids down the track.

I'm sure it would be cheap to rent there though. I remember on my last trip I saw brand new, top notch three bedroom apartments in the middle of Bangkok going for about the equivalent of $400k. Same style in a similar proximity to the centre of Sydney would go for over a mill.

Anybody here had much experience with the Philippines? Thinking of heading over for 2-3 weeks over Spring Festival. Round trip flights from here are only $300.

Rent can be cheap depending where you are, but utilities (particularly electricity) can be quite pricey.

I know all think I'm Mis but I'm not.
I have 2 weeks left, two! and then I get to escape this province of despair. I do however have six weeks left on my Chinese visa.

Anyone who wants me can find me in Yunnan after that and then Thailand most likely. CWBeeker... third country forthcoming!

Might as well. I've got some plans as well that work best overseas, Asia can be done on the cheap if done properly. Plus Mis needs someone to manage his money for him. He's terrible at budgeting and I'm a cheap, cranky old curmudgeon.

Managing my money is proving frustrating lately. I decide to knuckle down and be budget conscious at the same time as Christmas, a Philippines trip, a mandatory trip to London, and my Dad calling in a debt.

Moving around a lot when I was young, as an adult, I've never felt the need to travel. Been there, done that.

However, recently I've found myself wanting to go on a Scenic Tour or something for a few weeks.

So I will look into it - in 2076 when I have money to do it.

I moved around a lot as a kid too, but if anything it fostered my need to uproot fairly regularly. With the exception of my six years of high school and three years of Uni, I've never been in one place more than two years at a time.

recent redudancy has put my future travel plans on hold.

Hopefully new work involves travelling somewhere else in the country at least.

Don't wait.
Do something smaller or closer to home but go. Too many people put off doing things until they have enough money/time/... It's a mistake. Find a way to get your travel fix. It can be as small as a weekend away in a nearby town.

You'll make more money. You won't make more time.

So go.
