The Uate to Fullback Thread

So... Is it time?

Watching BMorris' transition to fullback this year, I'm just thinking Aku could play in the same mold and would be very effective. He'd be in a totally different mold to Darius but jeez he'd offer some amazing support play and kick returns.

So what does everyone think?

Well you guys know what I mean. I love having Boyd at the back (Uate is still unstable under the highball) but imagine the support play we'd get with UATE!

Wasn't he signed by the club as a fullback, I would love to see it but it's not going to happen with Boyd there. Most would agree Boyd hasn't set the world on fire but he has done enough to hold his position

Move the best winger on the planet to fullback? No. Darius is a fullback and a brilliant one. Form deserts him but it will return.

I wouldn't mind seeing Uate slip into fullback in attack every once in a while, but I wouldn't want him defending there.

Whilst the idea has some merit.

I suggest no, prefer he has the energy to run powerfully when he does run. Does not strike me as a huge talker, fullbacks must do that. Fullbacks need a passing game, to be fair, he may have one, it is an known. Can he kick?

In short I think having a specialist winger, one of the best, is a positive.

Then of course there is the ain't gunna happen with Uncle Wayne and Darius.

Honestly I don't care what position Aku plays. I just feel he is so wasted out there on the wing this year. Last year, Maddog fed him excellent ball but this year with Wes' injury and Sau not being Maddog, Aku hasn't been able to show us his best.

We need more set peices where Aku gets the ball in some space and one on one with a defender.

OR

When we are attacking, if we are not in the opposition 20 or 30 metre zone, Aku should play fullback with Darius on the wing. Aku should be on the shoulder of every foward sniffing around the ruck to get on the end of 2nd phrase play and offloads. When we get into the opposition 20/30 metre zone (where Darius is most effective) Darius and Aku swap back again.

Sure it's a right wing tactic (pun intented) but it could be genius. It could be 'yosh':crazy:

Willie could become Aku's best mate on the right if and when he wants a run at the fringe defenders. Aku isn't lazy but he isn't exactly tactical when it comes to testing suspect defenders. Aku gets numbered up on big time. I think he needs to play the ball faster cos a quick left shift after he is tackled would cause an overlap given he takes three or four defenders to stop him. Somone will be caught out of place.

He's retired sadly. The Dog. Doing great work with Fox and channel 9 though. Very funny to listen to.

The Maddog had plenty of 'selfish footy' in his game as well. He was just better than the guys there now.... Least we have one capable centre, Jimmy should be very thankful that T is on the left.
