The underlying reason for Roosters' collapse: the loss of Trent Robinson

We are playing terrible in 2011 but your claim we over achieved on 2010 is just ignorant and a poor troll attempt.

You too can begin to admit your own faults, ie. admitting that signing Carney had nothing to do with releasing Soward.

That and our mighty can do no wrong captain bitching to the media about his contract which unsettled the team from the get go.
Now Captain Amazing is playing like crap and is being rewarded with a new 2 year deal.

Agree, apparently Captain Pea Heart I was really hoping he didn't end up signing. Freaken Myles handled the Carney situation better than Anasta.

There can be a number of reasons why the Roosters are struggling to be competitive in 2011 but you just cant state that they had over-achieved in 2010 because of how they have played this year.
Everything clicked for them last year but now they have no combinations & are playing like a side that just has no idea.

LOL..

The roosters fans are upset at the truth.

There is a saying about such things but i won't post it as TT struggles with sayings and it does his head in trying to understand what a saying actually is.

You mean like when somebody says "It's clear which team got the better deal" but then that same person turns around protesting that they didn't claim there was a deal  Yes, I do struggle in communication with the intellectually unfortunate.

Hang on a tick...

Did Mong honestly claim that the Soward release/carney signing were linked?

I guess when you only follow football when the bandwagon is on the move (didn't see Mong posting anywhere but FC and fight club till mid-2009) you are not going to be up to speed

It is a figure of speech. Hypothetically speaking if the Roosters signed Slater for $200,000 and Saints signed Cronk for $500,000 people would say - 'the Roosters got the better deal', it would not mean that there was any type of deal between the Roosters and Saints.

Put it another way "It's clear which team got the better deal" the word deal should have been switched with 'outcome'. "It's clear which team got the better outcome". Maybe that would have made it easier to understand.

Rubbish..

Massive over achievement last year, back to reality this year.

Parra did it the season before..

I am surprised at the surprise about what is happening.

Yes and no.

Last year we were good in attack and poor in defence early in the season and when we finally addressed our defence we came good and got on that run.

This season we have been very, very poor in attack and our defence went back to it's frail former self. So what was the difference? This thread says it's coaching, or more specifically our assistant coach, however I feel that is only a small portion of what our issues have been.

Our major problem this season has been the amount of distruptions that we've suffered. Last season we had a fairly stable line up, with only the loss of Linnett really upsetting our attack at any stage in the season.

This season we've been butchered and we've had to fill in with kids who quite frankly, havent been up to first grade. I'm not saying they wont be up to it later, but at the moment they've struggled.

We've had Carney, SKD, Perrett, Myles, Ryles, Kennedy, Linnett, Pearce, Mini, Aubusson, Guerra and more out with injuries or Origin duties. We've used our emergency cap allocation of kids and have had to ask the NRL for an extension in the allowance, such have been our problems with injuries.

This sort of disruption leads to problems with combinations in attack as players have to get used to who is doing what and when it doesn't work confidence takes a hit. In defence kids get found out by more experienced oppositions and suddenly you're leaking like a sieve.

Last year was a year of stability and this year has been traumatic. Yes last year we "over achieved". We finished 6th and by all reasonable measures we should have been knocked out of the finals by one of the five other teams above us, but we got lucky against the Tigers and Panthers and made our season look better than it should have been.

But 6th place was pretty much spot on for how we were over the season and given the same stability this season we'd reasonably expect a similar outcome this season. But unfortunately we've been butchered and we're playing like a butchered team.

Hopefully we can keep our best on the field for the run in to add a bit of respectability to our terrible year.

Tbh until very recently our defense was quite good.

Remember the Cowboys game? We held them out for set after set after set on our own line, only to drop the f**king ball repeatedly every time we touched it. They didn't actually crack us open til fairly late in the game when we were absolutely shot. We hold the ball in that game and our defense would have got us over the line. Considering the amount of penalties and drop balls we cough up, our defense hasn't been particularly bad.

Agreed, the defence was actually an improvement on last year - particularly the goal line defence which was fantastic for the first 6 or 8 weeks - but they couldn't get over the line and in recent weeks it has just all fallen apart.

The way they played in round 1 with a near full strength team is an indication of the teams capabilities. We should have beaten the Dogs and Cowboys and if we weren't robbed against NZ we'd be looking alright for a finals spot.

In 2010 we played pretty damn good throughout the entire year save for the embarrassing losses against the Dogs and Penriff, who really should have spanked us by 50, and the Titans loss was pretty awful but all the other losses were just on the day we weren't good enough (or in the case of the Warriors loss being too damn cute late in the game instead of closing it out) Look at the Cronulla loss ffs we got over the line 5 or 6 times and were held up or taken in to touch, incredible stuff.

Take 14 players, most of them starters, out of Melbourne, Merge, Brisbane, any team in the NRL and see how well they perform. Not once in 2009 did the team ever look like coming good or showing what they can do but we've done it a few times this year and atleast in attack did it yesterday.

Injuries and attitude have been the biggest downfall in 2011. Keeping Mescia and Robinson on board would have kept the continuity though and both have been greatly missed.

See what happens when you don't read what was said before commenting Danish..

You end up looking as silly as TT..

And that takes some doing..

lol Mong has her own cheerleader, how cute.

I don't look silly at all, you claimed it was clear which team got the better deal. How are the signings even remotely related when they were 2 1/2 years apart? That's like us offloading Finch to Parra and saying we got the better deal because years later we signed Carney

Even when someone else points it out to you it's still way beyond your grasp..

How funny.

TT - Have you noticed how none of the other Rooster posters on this forum have come in and had a go at Mong for his 'deal' comment. Normally they would jump to your defence nearly straight away - but they are not because they can see the basic logic in the comment. No-one is saying the signings were related because they weren't. What is being said is that out of the 2 signings, the Dragons at this point look to have got the better deal(there's that word again). The better value, outcome.

I am not Mong's cheerleader but maybe a cheerleader for a bit of common sense. As I said where are all your 'cheerleaders' sticking up for you - there not because in this instance you just might have read it the wrong way.

If I weren't the least popular amongst Roosters fans your "defence" comment would have merit.

Mong never explained the relevance of Carney to Soward's release, avoided the thread for 3 weeks when pressed until Origin 3 where she finally got the courage to come in after Queensland won the game.

She implies that Merge got the "better deal" so where is the relevance between the two when they happened 3 years apart?

What have you done to piss the other Roosters posters off so much?

The relevance is Soward/Carney are both five eighths and that Soward was already playing at your club in lower grades as a five eighth. As has been stated at the moment it does look like Saints got the better deal as in they are getting a lot more value from Soward at present than you are from Todd Carney. It has nothing to do with the timing of when the players signed.
