The Utility Bench Spot Debate

This is why this season could be different. Smith is on his last ride IMO. He needs to preform or its bye bye. Players will all have to fight for their spots and if they dont they will be playing prems. SMith knows this is no time to be playing favourites. IMO trials dont mean much. Come round 1 we will see if we have any chance.

I don't agree with the popular view that we will be definate top 8 contenders next year.

My prediction still stands and it's based on the team tactics which haven't changed and are the real problem (not the playing stocks)

Predicition next year: 11th

We will narrowly miss out again on the 8.

I know what you mean. But the 2 lock strategy is gone IMO. Smith knows its wrong and wont work with Wagon there.

This thread should really be posted after we see some trail form. Alot of spot at Parra are hinging on trail form, only Hindmarsh is sure to be in the number 11.

True.

However, this post was mainly for hypothetical scenarios and hypothetical discussion - it was meant to see how each of you fellow fans thought and felt about our embarrassment of riches on the bench for the next few years.

I think Parra will make the 8 just due to the improvements that the new players bring to our defencive line. Our defence looks much stronger heading into this season compaired to last.

We are depending a lot on our juniors. But if they are all they are meant to be we will go better than the last two years. We have better depth this year as well. Much more the be excited about.

I was watching high lights of the 2001 season, and i was shocked and amazed how many of Cayless' passes lead to tries or breaks. Given he can stay fit for a whole season he will add a whole new dimention to our attack.

Just the forwards ability in general to draw players and throw short passes lead to so many tries. We need to bring more skill back to the pack and we need to build a healthy balance between going forward and razzle dazzle.

Front or Second Row doesnt change Cayless's game. This is why Iam not as fussed as some.

what about

6.morris
7.marsh

9.riddell

14.o'dwyer

i reckon o'dwer could come in and play 5/8(where he played as a jnr) with morris/pj slipping into hooker with riddell getting a rest. also with o'dwyer your basically covering the whole back-line barring probably fullback if someone gets hurt and he can also play in the back row he's the perfect utility player imo

i think o'dwyer still has some question marks on his ability in this level. maybe with a complete off season under his belt and the experience of last year he maybe ready to step up.

let's hope so!

I think he could be a great utility player.

For a small bloke he certainly can tackle.

Centre, fullback, 5/8, or hooker or anywhere in the back row.

he certainly can he puts his body on the line word is he's bulked up a bit. Considering he basically came out of the queensland cup he should be a good performer with a full off-season and a bit of 1st grade expirence
