FFS give it a break!!!
The usual mob get beat week after week after week…

Flano has had the team for 2 weeks both of which have been huge improvments on the manly game. Against the raiders the Cov cost us the game with two terrible defensive efforts. Against the tigers Robinson cost us with a huge error.

Here’s an idea…
Let’s keep sending the same guys out again and again and again...
And who knows?...
Maybe the usual mob who EVERYBODY beats, might – just all of a friggin’ sudden – become unbeatable.

who said anything about unbeatable we will win games we have a good side in there somewhere last week proved that

Then again, maybe they won't.

Kelly’s sooking is he?

yes he is

The kid comes to us and he plays halfback in the trials this year.
We get thrashed by the tigers in A TRIAL!!!!!!! and the one shining light is a chip, regather and score by Kelly.

So Sticky – in all his stupidity – starts the kid out of position at fullback.

if you have a look you will see Kelly started coming off the bench like Barba but that didn't work. Then he tried him at fullback that didn't work so he put him in nsw cup to work on his defense. Kelly then was whinging, sooking and throwing tantrums so hasn't been given another go! A few ppl I know at the club said he thinks he is better then everyone, is hard to get along with and argues with coaches all the time.

Then, when Sticky realises the kid can’t catch bombs – probably because when he was winning the Toyota Cup player of the year it was his job to put ‘em up, not catch ‘em – Sticky punts him back to Reggies.

So then Joey grima gets him – an indigenous kid who would be totally disillusioned.
“Keep plugging away and Sticky will put you back up” is what any coach would say to keep him motivated and get his head right.

But after the kid sees the firsts getting’ beat week after week after week after week… he sees the writing on the wall – loud and clear:
ALBERT, STICKY WANTS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU.

Grima also knows it’s useless and the shallow, hollow words of encouragement stop.

Kelly is a footballer – he’s proved that. He loves the game.

And dipsticks come on here and accuse him of sooking. Idiots who have never laced a boot
. what's the highest grade you ever played?

What Sticky did to this kid is akin to what Ando did to Presto HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ooo stop it that hurts when he punted him to fullback after Presto won the Dally M from the 7 jumper the year before.
That indigenous kid would’ve also been on the scrapheap except Langy threw him a lifeline where he went on to win a GF.

I just hope Kelly gets released so do I the kid is 20 and nowhere near good enough to throw his weight around making demands and blowing up delux when he doesn't have them met. and he runs out for the bunnies next year and absolutely carves us to shreds.sharks fan?
We are dickheads and we fully deserve it.

And Flannow deserves to keep losing as long as he keeps rewarding mediocrocy
. The two games he has coached where miles ahead of what we dished up against manly miles ahead.
We have nothing to play for.

Trialling lower graders in firsts til years end is more beneficial than 2 points from beating the Warriors.
He has already come out and said he is looking for players who have pride in the jersey and are showing him signs of improvment. Tell me in the two games he has been coach for that improvment hasn't occurred.

Phlanoe thinks these blokes are the answer next year on the back of wade Graham???
He thinks Cov is a first grader??

That thinking rivals this sh*te:"That usual mob lost the game last week due to the ref! Kelly is a bludger.."

The comments of someone who really understands football.
I sense some sarcasm here but if not cheers

whichever winger is on the Pommeroy/Covell side of the field is going to have a field day.
I'm pretty sure Ivan would have noted that the defensive capabilities of Pommeroy are of Z grade standard and will have his team attack that side of the field continually. We have no hope of winning games while ever Pommeroy plays in the centres.
Warriors by plenty.

your right ima, pomeroy is not a centre, but he is a solid defender, i don't know where you got that from.

if anything, they will target covell, the guy was slow enough before he got injured.
he is a slug now.

I'm don't think we have improved that much in the last two weeks...

If Tigers could kick goals, we wouldn't have been close. The fact of the matter is we let them score 5 tries. You can't do that to any side and expect them to win...

That being said, this is how I would put the side together:

1. Gardner - Focus on support play with forwards (Gal, Toupou). Also focus on getting more involved in the backline structure - involved second of the ruck (almost as a second 5/8). This kid is the future, and I think he could eventually become our Darren Lockyer.

2. Ferguson - I do want him dropped, but we are running short of wingers.

3. Collis

4. Covell - Too slow for a winger. Senior player who can help the outside backs.

5. Gordon

6. Kelly - I do think he is having a sook. But as a club we have seen too many talented players lost because we don't push them. We have nothing to lose, so let's give him a go.

7. Porter - He is a structured player, let him coordinate field position - with Kelly giving the attacking flair.

8. Snowden

9. Morris

10. Douglas

11. Gallen - Rotate into front row occassionally.

12. Wright - Rotate into front row occassionally.

13. Barrett - Allow him to get involved as 5/8th, but let him run the ball. It's worked well at the Roosters with Anasta - it could do the same at Cronulla. Gallen is a 2nd rower - not a lock.

14. Aiton - Play the same role as he has been

15. Toupou - Damaging when fresh and opposition is tired. Should not be an 80 minute player. He adds spark.

16. Pommeroy - See Toupou. Used as a flair in back row. Gives us extra value given he could also cover outside backs if injury occurs.

17. Vave - Needs to come back. Until Mannah is showing good form, Vave should be allowed to make his mark.

Our attacking options increase with Gardner, Kelly, and Barrett all with the ability to be second off the ruck.

Our forwards can be fresh, with a total of 4 backrow options, and 5 front row options. Each game can be adapted to the opposition and the way the game is panning out.

6. Kelly - I do think he is having a sook. But as a club we have seen too many talented players lost because we don't push them. We have nothing to lose, so let's give him a go.

7. Porter - He is a structured player, let him coordinate field position - with Kelly giving the attacking flair.

you swap them around.
It's only a number but the 7 is all the kid's worn and if you're a halfback you wear that shirt.

Kelly is first pass off the ruck. Morris is good at the scoop and run from the play the ball and kelly runs off him and targets kiwis in the ruck.

All day. He can chip, he can regather the ball and he can run.

Gardner with him - and we try and get some sort of combo that works like Cronk and Slater.

they are kids and kids love one thing - throwing caution to the wind.
Gardner loves nothing better t han toattack. he shows that every week.

All we want to do is harness this attitude - I don't get it.

Our club has become so infatuated with the arm wrestle we doubt ourselves in attack.
It feels foreign to throw the ball thru the hands or take a guy on.

Preston and russell were 2 of our best ever halfbacks and they did their damge straight thru the middle, not running across or kicking bombs to wings.

Barry russell ran off Gav all day and his pace meant it was shut the gate.

Sticky and fflenow love the structured halfback.
No Risk, can tackle and kick long.

That's Ports.
That's Cov.

Safe, sure, no risk.
No October football.

I like Frailty's side with the slight halves tweak as suggested by 73.

Otherwise I feel it is just like watching Origin over the last 5 years, you get all hyped up but deep down you know it's going to be the same result.

Regretably "Lacing up a boot" was about the only talent I ever had for Rugby league .I have coached and captained in another team sport which though very different had some similarities in management of talent . I agree Kelly needs to be tried, hopefully after next week , no matter what. However I can understand the coach holding off till, "hopefully " he can bring him into a winning side . .... Bring a young rookie ,brilliant ,but with areas that DO need improving , into a losing side .... they win ... everybody says great selection ...coach and rest of the team has to deal with an overinflated ego .. does no one any good .

A poser for the forumites

If Kelly is not being picked because he's allegedly carrying on like a porkchop, why is Ferguson getting picked?

There has to be more to it.

I agree that Kelly can be the attacking flair we need but for me to endorse that I need to see him trying his guts out and put an end to the tantrums. It's not good for a team that would no doubt be struggling for confidence. I'll ask around about his performance this week and let everyone know unless someone is going to watch the nsw cup side play I'd be very interested in a game analysis!

Ferguson is a douche but he is still putting in everyweek Kelly the douche is parading around at training having passing digs at players and staff. I don't think he is liked and I get real mad because the kid has talent. I'd say he needs a rocket but it may just take him to another club!

It sounds like Hughsie has some inside knowledge but I would hazard a total guess that fergo also is being picked because
a. A win at this stage would really do a lot to stamp it as a new era . if Fergos here or not next year is irellevant. It would give the current side big moral boost.

b.Kelly is not being picked for atitude problems I pointed out above ,but if he were not in the plans for next year surely he would have been released.I think the comparisons with Preston Campbell are an insult to Preston Campbell. There MIGHT be some similarities in talent , but Preston Campbell is not a prima donna ,only ever spat the dummy after winning Dally M then being treated like an unproven rookie. Who wouldnt?

c.Fergo .illadvisedly shot his mouth off and insulted teammates . If they win with or without him it shoves those words right back at him that sharks cant win , especially if its against a side that might be silly enough to sign him .

Yes. All that but...............an attitude problem is an attitude problem. Is there a bad message being sent to Kelly that comes across as maybe favouritism or inequity?

Just throwing things out there.

How's it favouritism ? Fergo is a First grade ,Rep Player.. Kelly is out of form in NSW cup ,and regardless of position he played etc , didnt make it in firsts . Hopefully New coach has a word to him and makes it known he wants him in the halves.... SOON... and its up to him to MAKE him Pick him!

16. Cordoba
17. Vave

When i was coaching, the lower grades were there for one reason - to feed the top side and to put pressure on the top side.

But you had to dangle the carrot for those guys. They had to believe they could earn a shot at the top grade.

At Cronulla that ain't the case and it does not surprise me one bit that blokes are pizzed off. It happens in the work place and at sport clubs. a whiff of poor management and people start bitching.

If i ever lost 2 games in a row i would automatically change something. Shake something up.

I just do not get our club. It breaks my heart to have to support a side that has accepted defeat so readily.
'We have no money.'
We have no players.'
'We're the perennial bridesmaids.'
'The ref's are against us.'

We hang these tags on ourselves and accept the same mob running out each week and getting beat.

How Sticky could accept losing week after week after week and just go about trotting the same old style each week. How he could go to training after 4 consecutive losses and not shake the life out of the place.
I would have turned it upside down to ensure I got a win that next week.

I'm pushing Albert kelly, yet have hardly seen the guy play.

But I know this...
We have players in our top side who will NEVER be good enough to get a side to the semis, yet they keep getting picked.

i don't get it. Fugged if I do.

if I know something won't work - I HAVE to try something else.
Maybe it will who knows?

Scott porter? lovely bloke, but honestly..will never play semi final football as long as his arse points to the ground.

Albert Kelly won the Toyota Cup player of the year award.

Now you don't win an award like that an the back of 2 or 3 good games.

You win it because you are THE BEST player in the competition from the first round to the last.
This kid can play rugby league.

He worries defences and guides a team.

The fact we were coming 2nd to last for 2 years and ricky Stuart never even TRIED this kid at 7 blows my mind.
we didn't have to chase him or sign, steal or borrow him - he was in our club.
We just had to handle him a jersey.

If he played against the Warriors I know he would miss tackles.
I know he would be targeted.
I know he make a mistake thru overplaying his hand.

But i also know this - he would try - and DO - things that Porter can't.

And several times during the match something would click.
Why wouldn't it?
He went thru a whole yaer as the best player in the comp against his peers.

He made some howlers at fullback earlier this year under the highball, but his confidence was never dented.

When a lot of guys would have dug a hole he had the audacity to tear into chasers twice his size or try and burn chasers on the outside.

Sticky couldn't handle the fact he didn't follow the 'safety first' call and punted him.
i subscribe to the John Lang playbook.

Under Ricky stuart Chris Sandow would never see the top grade and Beau champion would never cross a tryline excpet his own to stand under the posts.

We are lucky in that we have 5 rounds to blood these guys - in games that don't matter.
They can go their hardest against seasoned first graders and win, lose or draw it's an invaluable learning curve.
Much better than waiting til trial games against half-assed competition or in games that matter in early 2011.
And, a bloke like kelly would have the opportunity to learn a few things from Barrett.
A slightly better option than say, reserve grader Wade Graham next year.

But you've been following sticky's rule for a decade now Flanno - so don't go changing the mantra....

'Don't chase the win - just pick the guys who ensure you won't get towelled up.'

You're a dickhead and you're at a club where dickheads have ruled for nearly 10 years.

And we're dickheads because we turn out each week to watch the same 17 blokes achieve the same result each week.

The Idiots Guide to Groundhog Day.

Anyway - that's my point and I've hammered it to death in this thread.
For the life of me i can't accept defeat until I've left absolutely no stone unturned, and that's what frustrates the crap out me about our coaches.

Scott Porter - I bet Ivan Cleary hasn't slept all week.
