The club has made several stupid decisions. Letting go of Trent Merrin, Brett Morris, Jack Bird, Matt Prior and Jason Demetriou. The stupidest decisions, why they would ever let Merrin go was just dumb, Doust should of tried to get Josh Morris back if Brett wanted to play with him. Jack Bird was a talented junior stupidly let go, Matt Prior was playing in the centres which isn't his ideal position, he's a prop who play through the middle player great last year, Price couldn't decide we he should play. Should of kept him. And Jason Demetriou who will one day be one or he best coaches or his time. Mary and Jason should of swapped roles. All of these players/coach should of been kept.

Agree on Brett Morris and Bird. A club should try to keep one of its best ever backs. Saw that Reg Gasnier scored 127 tries in 125games. What a freak!
Mark Gasnier also scored about one try every two games.

Brian Graham went to PNG for work and then to Newtown
Brian James went to Souths
Johnny Greaves went to Dogs
3 great outside backs who all went onto to stellar careers and rep honours

Bit hard to put Bmoz in there..

We got 9 seasons out of him.. that's not bad..

Regretted but never resented him leaving.
Irreplaceable. Played brilliantly week in week out.

 

[Slippery Morris]

Brett and Steve Morris were shafted by the club. They gave the club their good years then when the club needed to show loyalty let them down forcing them to leave. Probably same with Josh Morris but hey Saints decided to throw the money at Gaz and let Josh go. You can blame King Bennett for that not the club. Bennett had a 3 year plan and that is what he gave the Saints, 3 good years.

Saints also picked up handy players for other clubs :-

Pity all those were done when King Bennett had his 3 year plan and they left straight away or soon after.

We need to be a bit fair here with some of the names bandied round

Kevin Ryan 7 years with us the 3 with Canterbury and for 2 of those years we won the comp anyway.

Monty Porter 8 with us and 1 with Cronulla (he got the captaincy so good move)

With respect to this thread, which raises some valid losses, i would think most clubs post the salary cap period, could produce a similar number. We just happen to have a lot of juniors as a result of our demographic.
