People at the cows trial reckon when Thompson was playing fullback his talk out the back was very good and it’s backed up in this article saying it was our best period in the game when he slotted in at fb.

I have no issue with this call at all and if Thompson sounds like the best option atm then IC has my support, I just hope lolohea isn’t disheartened because I feel he has a lot to offer our team if he can get the fundamentals right. Better working on those in reserves than 1st grade

If he sulks it up, like what he appeared to be doing at the Warriors, then maybe he's not cut out for the NRL.

He should take it as motivation. I reckon he'll be back in the side soon, whether or not at #1 who knows.

7. Luke Brooks
8. Russell Packer
9. Elijah Taylor

Interchange:
14. JJ Felise
15. Alex Twal
16. Chris McQueen
17. Tyson Gamble

I'd run with this team for our first game but I think we will run out pretty similar to the team picked to play Cronulla this weekend.
That’s a real good side. Our Forward depth is excellent considering Grant & Sue wouldnt make the team.Obviously Thompson may have the jump on Lolo for FB.The change I’d make is Benji in for Brooks.Brooks can’t manage a piss up in a brewery. We desperately need someone competent to steer the team around the park & the prodigal son is without a doubt our best option.

That is a good team. Here is the thing though. Thompson looked really good in that trial and maybe he deserves to pip Tui. MWZ also looked really good and Fonua had a couple of loose moments including a brain snap. Milne to me looks better than Kev but Kev does seem completely professional.

Brooks is a worry but so is Reynolds. Brooks plays really well in general play in that he takes on the line and has a nice passing game but he makes a lot of mistakes on the 5th and we need him to get those options right. Reynolds also looks like he has some mistakes in his game. I can honestly see Gamble and Benji getting a run together in the halves. Gamble looks good to me.

I so want Gamble to give IC no choice but to pick him at 7 coz Brooks isnt good enough. We desperately need to find a solution re a quality game manager coz we have a decent squad with more than adequate depth.Problem is we don’t have an effective rudder. If we had a quality half we’d b definite finals contenders. As it stands Benji is our best option coz I don’t know if Gamble is ready yet.One things for certain Brooks will never b ready to “own the team” as it’s massively above his station in life ! It’s y IC will b moving heaven & earth to get his son to Concord b4 his contract expires at Penrith.

Btw I believe we should chase Kane Elgey for this season coz I’ve no doubt the titans would release him.He has enormous ability & is surplus to there needs due to Ash Taylor being the dominant half @ titans.

It'd be funny if Benji came back into the 7 role and led us to the finals with controlled footy. At this point I think he is the best option out of all our halves to do that. It shows how shithouse our halves are.

It wouldn’t shock me.Benji might b in the twilight of his career but he’s intelligent he genuinely loves the club to death & he has enormous integrity.

I know it’s fanciful but geez how I’d luv the team to make the GF of the back of Benji’s mature guidance.

I like Cleary's move to put Lolo in reggies to give him the best shot of becoming the best fullback he can. If Liddle is out for the 1st month do we have any other options besides Matty M and ET ?
With Brooks not being a great half yet we need to give him all the help we can. To be fair though few halves would dominant with either of those two at hooker.

I am willing to give Brooks a couple of months before writing him off, but if he has not improved in that time, than its curtains and we do look at Gamble,Benji or even Tui

perhaps Farah can get cut mid season by South and he can join the bus as well for the GF

Not going to lie, adding benji to our spine and partnering reynolds would make our side look 10x better. Only issue is he isn’t a long term fix rather a short term.

Should we worry about long term fixes? If we start winning consistently, they will come.
I think IC has done a great job in getting this team together, after all we have been a basket case both on and off the field the past few years with little to encourage better players to join us, no one wants to win the spoon, hopefully this will/has now changed.

I wouldnt be surprised if Ivan is still testing things out.

I dont expect that the trial side will be the round one side, but if they play well and show good combinations, I wouldnt be surprised if it was the round one side as well.

I think Ivan might be going with a squad rather than a team mentality and with the depth we have now, he has the luxury to do that. Having players fight for spots can only be a good thing.

Im still most concerned about our depth at hooker.

I’m most concerned about game management (Brooks isn’t a game managers rectum) followed by defense in 3/4’s especially if the defense illiterate buffoon Naquama manages to find his way into the team in 2 wks. Also hope either Thompson or LoLo can quickly adapt & excell at fullback coz it’s another potential weakness in our squad !

All in all there are many question marks about our backline & it certainly looks to b our Achilles heel.If the 1 To 7 dont aim up we will b looking at another yr finishing towards bottom of ladder.

If you were the opposing team which backline would you rather face

1. Lolohea
2. Nofoluama
3. Marsters
4. Milne
5. Fonua
6. Reynolds
7. Brooks

Or

1. Thompson
2. Nofoluama
3. Marsters
4. Naiquama
5. Thompson/MWZ
6. Reynolds
7. Brooks

Days are over where small athletic backs steal the show. I’d much rather have Players like Naiquama and Thompson running at me all day who can be easily dominated rather than blokes like Fonua, Milne, Nofoluama and Marsters all day who would be like tackling another forward

That 1st backline assuming Brooks suddenly & miraculously became an effective organiser is potentially a very good backline.
Fonua & Nofa taking the ball up early in our sets from our side of the field are going to b a lethal combination. When u have the awesome pack IC has assembled attacking of the back of that we will b formidable in the middle.A quality game manager with a top draw kicking game(Son of IC)would not only get this team into the semis but ensure they r title contenders.

Our Jersey Flegg team looks terrible

We used to always go well in the juniors

I guess we need to see how things play out starting tonight. It's still going to take time before the tigers are playing consistent good footy. The rough start to the draw doesn't help cos we could be 1-4 even 0-5 playing well but losing to good teams which already puts us behind the 8 ball. I think after round 10 we can judge selections.

I'm surprised with the lolahea situation but I'm not at training so he may be making mistakes catching bombs or things like not supporting we an offload is available. Last week I thought the tigers were at their best in the first half because we put on a couple of tries and defended well. Also it was Cowboys top team on the park in the first 40. Whereas in the second 40 we looked better in attack but the cowboys had alot of back ups on the field and their defense was horrible.
