Thoughts on Benji so far

Benji realizes he is not the player he use to be and now uses his experience and knowledge which now gives us a new dimension in attack. There was many criticism put out to him by dragons fans but i believe his responding to them well and gets better each week.

Your thoughts?

I think he's one of our best buys. Creates things from nothing but also playing with structure and his kicking game has been excellent. Defense has been very good as well

Very proud of him.
Head down, modest, self critical, all this from a guy who was the face of the NRL.
Well done Benji, I was skeptical but you have proven me wrong.
Class act, who will win us more games as a result of his maturity.

I was always for us signing him as I felt he would bring people through the gate and viewed this a strong marketing ploy. As an ex Kiwi captain and face of the NRL, Benji has a certain aura about him and this will attract supporters, possibly sponsors and maybe sway people over to support us. It was always my view we were in a win/win situation.
What has really surprised me has been his consistent improvement in his playing ability. Much better again last weekend and hopefully, will iron out those little bugs that had crept into his game at the end of his time at the Tigers.
He's still a work in progress but he is displaying all the right attributes and attitude towards becoming a leader of our team. Much like Big Dell, he will become a St George favourite over the next few years. Great signing.

Was not happy when we signed him - rocks and diamonds since he signed - but his jubilee oval debut was great. In fact I was thinking his first 40 minutes was the best performance by a number 7 for the Saints in YEARS.

I understand that's a big call but I am not afraid to make them :)

Oh were done bashing Benji & demanding Doust stand down due to his signing? Sweet!

Dont worry there will be many ebbs and flows to come, but there is a 1000% more improvement to come from him and the squad once they completely gel and the centres click too, but having someone genuinely creative and able to adapt to whats in front of him.. priceless..

Its not the young superstar halfback we would love to have coming thru... but thats a few years away and Benji is a great building block to work with for whatever coach is there in 2015.

I was against signing him but I believe I am being proved wrong. He is still not fit by his standards and when he gets that run back in his legs and some off the mark speed back he could be lethal. Remember that he is not a natural half-back; he was a running five eight at his best so this is another adaption for him. He is going really well and hats off to McGregor for the way he is being handled.

As an aside, how big is Rory O'Brien? I saw in warming up with the 1st grade squad on Saturday night and he looked like a town-hose in a football jersey. At 120 kilo's he could be what we need up front.

I doubt if we would have won as many games lately if we did not have him....if only for his presence on the field...I'm sure other players have lifted a notch or 3 since he arrived because they know he can be a game changer in the flick of an eyelid....I know he's lost some of his pace etc but his awareness is still there......put it this way we still may not be a serious premiership threat in some peoples eyes but at least we are in a much better place than we were a few months ago.....

Fantastic signing. I was stoked when we signed him as I knew he still has a few good seasons in him left. He has taken some of the pressure off Widdop. I still cant believe Benji is a dragon. Who would have thought that 12 months ago?

So refreshing to see a 100% positive thread. I'm very impressed with the way Benji has carried himself and been so humble. I'm sure the footy show has been knocking on his door but he wants to keep focused. IMO he has become a Dragon

Was always happy to sign him having faith in his ability to bring something positive to the team.Has always been a match winner & IMO will continue to be but just in a different manner.
He has an aura on & off the field, something that the Dragons have not had for a long time & with this I can only see good things such as merchandise sales, sponsorship & fans.Even my eldest daughter who has always been a tigers fan now wants to go to the games with me because of two reasons 1 the Duges(who she says is hot) & 2 Benji whom she has met a few times over the years & has nothing but good things to say about him.

Not the try scorer he once was, but he can still find a gap.

He can also be f**king awful as well. See Titans game. He's the ultimate rocks & diamonds player, & it's not ever gonna change. It's just who he is.

Overall, I'm glad we signed him. It was hard at first, because Channel 9 made me dislike him, as they were always kissing his arse & glossing over his mistakes. tbh, he still looks weird in a Red V. Something I never thought I'd see.
