if they play with that much "ticker" every week i dont think you can ask for more then that as an eels fan....the important thing is that they play with the same ticker this week and we will win our fair share of games

I worked early this morning, But i IQ'ed the game on Foxtel and im watching it now, I already know we go down, But i tell you we look good, Its only Round 1, We look like a new team and there is no shame losing to NZ in NZ, The Warriors are playing well but are getting all the ball.

TICKER.

We showed more of it tonight than for most of last season.

Those of you who have come on here tonight and put sh*te on certain players should go and buy a mirror.

It's the first round ffs. We are coming off the back of not only a poor last season, but a very poor 2008 culture. Hagan himself admitted that his mind wasn't on the job from July.
To be honest, we showed more flair tonight than we have done for 18 months.
Yes, there are creases to iron out. Yes there is match fitness to get accustomed to. Yes there are players who made mistakes, or their timing wasn't quite right etc......etc..... but.......

I saw plenty to be excited about tonight. It was a tough gig over there.

We are already doing double cutout plays and run-arounds. Stuff other teams have been doing for years, successfully. We actually scored two tries from such plays. I was excited. We haven't really been able to execute that sort of stuff properly for several years now. Even 2007 - a successful year, we weren't that good at this sort of stuff.

For those who have just jumped on the f**king Criticism Cart, have another think about things tomorrow.
You just may think a bit differently.
This is as happy as I have been after a first round loss for years. I can see the light....................

Suity

Yeah nicely put.
I can't believe the amount of clowns that are bagging players and the coach already.

great post.. agree wholeheartedly
aside from Cordoba, everyone got in and had a go last night and by the end it appeared we were actually playing for each other
we're (hopefully) only gonna get better..

Just saw the highlights, two of their tries were just plain piss-weak defence.

On the positive side, each of ours was down to a good pass/run.

I pretty much agree with Suity. I've expressed my displeasure with Hayne in another thread, but in general I thought the team put in a bloody good effort.

I don't think we were ever in the game but, especially considering that, it was important that we didn't give up either.

A good showing like last night will go a long way towards securing two points next week.

We just gave away too many dumb penalties and too much dropped ball, apart from that i thought we did quite well, We hardly had any ball in the first half hence why the warriors got out to that lead, our defence was excellent at times but like any other team if you keep turning it over, your eventually going to pay for it.

Once the possession evened up in the 2nd half, we looked dangerous, we'll win more games than we'll lose this year. I dont see manly hitting the panic buttons despite going down to the dogs. I'd keep the same 17.

How refressing was it to see us use the backline though? alot of times last year we'd just go across field then pass back inside for a forward to try and barge over. Last night we really got our outside backs involved.

I saw a great improvement in attaitude, that is a big plus, however our execution and defence were at times B grade stuff but i see no reason why we can't improve those areas in the coming weeks...

Last year I also was disapointed with our season considering some of our talent, but I cant believe some of the crap people are slinging at our guys. I saw so many more positives in one game (round 1 by the way) than most of last year. I love my team and it would be nice if some of the supporters showed a little bit of passion (like our players did last night ). Please give them a go . I know everybody has their own opinions and that is fine but give it a rest and stop bagging them for their sakes not mine.:crazy::crazy:

It will take Anderson a little while to get rid of the 'Hagan stench' still lingering around our side but overall the signs were more positive than negative for me.

We looked fit and strong in the final 20 which is something I can't remember thinking about our side for a long time.

Our first half killed us and there was no coming back from the Finch/Burt miss for Hohaia's 2nd. We didn't throw the towel in though and if Benny could have hung on the Haynes' chip it would have made for an interesting finale.

Let's see how we back up next week. I'm expecting more improvement...

well said Suit.

I've read some rubbish on here since the game.

Perhaps it's just a venting of frustration with all the off field talk we've had....

Agree whole-heartedly with Parra Steve and Fee. I`d keep the same 17 next week - wouldn`t even drop Cordoba. Give `em some time. For God`s sake, we`re not trying to win the comp this year; it`s a consolidation year! Get off their backs and stop showing your ignorance about football. They went great last night, considering all the circumstances. GO PARRA!

I beg to differ. If you're not trying to win it you might as well not bother showing up.
