does anyone remember when parra stadium was absolutely packed when australia played france about 15 years ago. i remember going with my junior footy team and i know so many people that all went due to a massive promotion with junior rugby league clubs and cheap or free tickets. why cant the arl do something similar with the thousands of rugby league juniors in the area? it surely cant be that hard to sell 20k tickets, or at least 5-7k reduced price tickets to junior players.

It was better administration back then.

It was also during the League season and it was 1994 when Rugby League was one of the biggest known sports in Australia.

The administration these days dont think too much, I mean have you seen the prices for a family ticket?

Unfortunately these days the 'Kangaroos' dont get promoted enough and how often do we play in Australia, let alone Sydney. I know our crowds havent been the best lately but people wouldnt know it was on unless they read parts of the newpapers and internet.

I am looking forward to next Sunday, should be a good entertaning game of Rugby League, hopefully not a blowout, but some good quality football. Its only a week away, and unfortunately most of Sydney RL fans dont even know its on.

I had to double check my ticket to say 4pm cause I kept hearing different times. 5pm, 6pm, 7pm.

Another great promotion from the ARL.

I heard radio announcements today and there will be plenty media interest this week. I think there will be a decent crowd by kick off especially if it is a nice day out.

I'd be surprised if the game vs the Kiwis was a contest actually.

I suppose you haven't watched origin most of the last decade?

The difference is, I care about beating New South Wales. I despise New South Wales because they honestly believe they are the centre of the rugby league universe, so every win for Queensland is just a beautiful, beautiful thing.

Beating New Zealand is like winning a gold at the Commonwealth Games - who cares?

New Zealand won the last world cup. When is the last time NSW won something?

Hoping for 20,000. Which would be 4 more thousand then the last time we played England in Wellington.

Seriously, when we have posters saying they care more about SOO than Internationals, its time to get rid of SOO. Vidot having to drop out of Samoa because he wanted to play for Queensland? WTF?

I'm originally from NSW, but care about as much for NSW as a concept or a team as I would the South Romania turnip throwing championship. The whole SOO concept has had its day and kept RL popular while other countries developed.

SOO is now a selection trial for the real deal. 4 nations, Anzac tests and other international tours. NSW V QLD is a real seppo way of thinking, i.e. there is nothing outside of our door.

NZ should be strong favourites in this 4 nations. It will certainly be a much bigger contest than SOO where NSW are whipping boys of QLD.

The sales figures for the Aus vs PNG game prove that the game should have been played in Canberra as was mooted.

I guarantee that Canberra would have beaten any crowd that Parramatta get for the match.

Yeah but what is Canberra doing to get these games? Melbourne and Brisbane have their state governments offering incentives to take games there. So it's pretty clear what somewhere like Canberra can do to get a game if they really want one. I would have happily gone to Canberra for the game but instead I'm going to Sydney. If the ACT government can't see the benefits of attracting these games they need to be told.

Eden Park - 45,000 seater? Hopefully the weather is good and there is a late rush for tickets...

So they should at least break even this weekend if not make a small profit and then make a pretty good profit for the Eden Park game. And I reckon the Kiwis PNG game in Rotorua will pull at least 10-15k as well and expenses for that game will be less.

Even 25k for Eden Park would be disappointing I feel. We used to get 25-30k for Tests at Eriksson or North Harbour regularly. This is a double header, at a venue where RL hasn't been played since 1988 AFAIK, the Kiwis are world champions and are a great chance of winning this game and the tournament. It really should be the biggest crowd for an international in NZ in a long time.

Yeah secretly I'm hoping for 30k but I'm not too sure it will happen especially if we don't win this weekend.

This is the thing you guys on here just don't get. It's not about one-off results like the World Cup, it's about cultures. There is a culture that any Queenslander grows up with and that is that if anything bad ever happens to a New South Welshmen it's a win for the good guys. They are the enemy, someone to despise, a bunch of blokes representing a pack of arrogant wankers. We could beat them 60 times in a row and the joy wouldn't wear off.

New Zealand on the other hand is just our annoying little brother. They always have been, and always will be. No one cares about beating the kiwis, it's fun and all, but it's no real achievement.

Naturally, kiwis treat a test like Queenslanders treat an origin, and good on them. But the only way international league will ever matter is if England (or a country bigger than us) becomes a legitimate threat. Untill that day, we are wasting our time, and anyone who suggests getting rid of origin to make these tournaments more valuable is deluded.

So the country has to have more population then you to make a win satisfying? You're the one deluded if you don't think England and New Zealand are going to pose a 'legitmimate threat' to Australia.
