After Heingos game in the City Country, we'd better hurry up, because his stock is skyrocketing right now and the vultures will be circling.
Don't worry brooksy, As we speak the Tigers management are working on ensuring Heighinton will not be snared by another club, by resigning McDonnell for another 5 years.

Fancy getting a spray "He has to play better" from a fat arse turd like Ronald

I suppose Head can cop it sweet when the Supercoach gives him spray after spray, but when the obese recruitment guru throws his considerable weight around he might start to wonder just how wanted/unwanted he is here.

Head has been in First Grade 4 weeks and has had spray after spray from Sheens and now Ronald. Whilst Morris has been here 18 months and only good things.

spray after spray

get a fkn grip, drama queen

you gotta admit though ink, it seems odd that Head has been getting talked down a lot by Sheens, and isn't a priority signing for next season, especially considering how much of an integral part he has played in the last few wins, while still not yet fully fit.

Don't you think he'd be a great attribute to the team next season, especially when fully fit?

Of course I do.

He's a big boy, Im sure Matt can handle the so called negativity the press cop re: himself:
Im sure the quiet words in his ear between the two concerned at training and after the game away from mics and tape recorders are a lot more reassuring.

The melodramatics and overreacting here is getting to a ridiculous level.

"He's got to play better, if he does and he gets back to his old form we're happy to pay the money," McDonnell said.
"But we're not rushing in stupidly at the moment.
"We've got a good relationship with him and his manager and he knows we gave him a chance this year and he knows what he has to do to stay here."
Dunno bout you, but I'd LOVE to see him play even better than he is currently.

I'll be happy if he plays half as well. It's still 10 times better than that f**king turd shines keeps wrapping in the media and trying to find a spot in the 17 (or 16 or 15 if you're coach shines) for. We'll dally and some team of twats like soufs or penriff will be only too happy to snap him up. He is class. When fit he is the best NSW halfback around and arguably 3rd best in the game (he sh*ts on the Cronk brothers). We should have a contract ready to be signed in triplicate in case it gets lost. He is a premiership winning quality halfback. The alternative is a f**king turd

Would prefer to give the benefit of the doubt to the coaching/management staff, on this. Doesn't bother me that much about what Coach says about whom, in the media. Player selections, on-field performance, and contract value are the bottom lines. If they are merely angling for a higher gear shift, from Head and will sign him shortly, ok. But... What with Morris almost certain to be extended beyond 09, the J-Mo indulgence does not look like it is going to be concluded anytime soon. Cap restrictions, other utilities already present, and promising options already showing up from the junior grades to cover positions, doesn't leave much justification for retaining Morris. Unless he figures prominently as a Half. This is likely to be at the expense of either a better player coming through, or Head, or both. Reading between the lines, it doesn't look encouraging at all.

Head isn't playing his best. He produced better football at the Dragons. He was also quicker before so that helped. He just looks that much better now because the standard of players in the Tigers team is lower. I think Tigers management is right not to sign him immediately. Wait until he is well and truly over the injury and then look to sign him. The Dragons persisted with him for years even when he was injury prone but had to let him go eventually

Of course he can handle it, but does he deserve it?

I'd also love to see him perform better, and if what we've seen so far is anything to go by, it's inevitable that his form will improve.

Don't you think it'd be wise to resign him before everyone starts sniffing around, increasing his market value, and take him before we get a chance to resign him?

This is what happened at the Dragons. We signed him up to a three year deal...first year was great towards the back end, he was out for most of the second and he struggled to make an impact in the third year and ended up finishing in ESL.

that may be the case, but when you have a quality player you need to be more lenient. Look at Benji Marshall for example. Has played f**k all games since the grand final win in 05, yet management would be inclined to upgrade his contract time and time again, they'd by foolish not to.

Yes, Head's ability to stay on the field has always been a concern. That being said, we go through this with Marshall. We took a similar punt on Prince. Watch as many Tigers games over the last 2 seasons as possible. Having Head on crutches is a better #7 or #6 option, than a fit Morris. Seriously. What is a concern is contract value. We are doing very well with him, despite the ongoing risk, on the $$$ at present. He would be good value to secure, even should he end up injured for the bulk of his contract. Wait much longer, and he won't be. That is if some other club, less enthralled by a J-Mo like Half, doesn't take the punt for us.

Regardless of getting him now, on a lower $$$ contract, a good Half, like Marshall, is worth carrying on a relatively large value, even if often sidelined. It can work out, but the cap has to be managed so that your side is not carrying underperformers, and dross, on similarly large coin. Or too many in the same slots. Cap balance is the deciding factor. With someone like Morris, the situation appears as if the "back up", utility player's contract is so high, that we have to decide whether we can have a real Half.

Catch 22 isnt it>?
We have enough of our cap watching from the stands as it is.
I cant blame them for for hanging back a bit, he like Marshall does have a history.
Reading between the lines you could say this.....
and he knows we gave him a chance this year
....means we get first dibs.

Any basis for this, or more whinging for whingings sake?

Morally speaking, I agree, we should get first dibs.

But given the comments thus far about Head's future with the Tigers beyond this season, and their reluctance to resign him at present, you can't help but feel that if someone put forward an offer tomorrow, Head would be pretty foolish to knock it back.

Footballers play for a living. Wouldn't you prefer a secure a income as opposed to waiting to see if you get hired for another year?

Reluctance to re-sign him?
"He's got to play better, if he does and he gets back to his old form we're happy to pay the money," McDonnell said.
They only just signed him, hes had what 2 reggie and 3 NRL games.
I'd say theyre focussing on Heighno , then they'll get around to Head.
Heighny was after all here first.

Sign head for two years, right now, while his market-value is presumably still low. personally, i'd be willing to cop him being injured for 50% of that; anything's better than j-mo at #7.

I agree with holding off on the signing for now tbh, but I'm not too sure with all the negativity in the press. He's hardly a hothead renowned for arrogance, so a little positivity here and there wouldn't go astray?

Head and Marshall = King and Woodgate (for MOTH's benefit). Class, despite being injury prone. Put them together and you win things.

There's a piece on Head in DT about tomorrow night's match and how Head would like to stay beyond this season.

Mentions that he normally has his future for next season sorted by now, but he's not too worried as Shines is happy with him so far and he just needs to "gel" with Robbie and Benji and keep in form.

Said he'd be only worried about his future if the club signed a genuine halfback.

I would like to see him play 80 minutes and be our primary kicking option before offering a 2009 contract.

Watching him get palmed off twice as Aubusson raced off to score last week didnt fill me with confidence regarding his defense.

Wait and see.
