am i the only white idiot who thinks its rank hypocrisy for black people to scream like scalded cats if they are racially abused by a white person but then turn around and use the same racial insult amongst each other?
racism is racism no matter who says it or to whom

It's all about context.

African Americans call each other n****r as a way to take ownership of the term

White people call them a n****r as a way to put them down.

It's all about intent and context

i agree its about how it is said and what the speaker means by it i know black people call each other n****r as a joke i meant a white person and a black person abusing the same black person and them being offended by one and not the other (if that makes sense)

Tahu made a stand against one of the greats before one of the games biggest events.

He is going always be a target now.

All the whinging stuff is just crap IMO and has been blown way out of proportion

That's my exact thought process too.

unfortunately things are just about to the stage where you are too scared to describe a person by their colour, race, etc in a perfectly innocent situation .... too many do-gooder c---s around for mine

its a tricky situation what you say might seem perfectly innocent to you but someone else might be offended by it

I'm not wrapped. He chews up a ridiculous salary and plays about 50% of the games if we're lucky.

Do you know what his salary is? And you have made up the 50% figure. He has missed a few for sure - but 50 %?? He played 17 games this year and 18 in his last season for us.

It really is quite pathetic how supposed Eels supporters were so quick to lay the boot in to one of our players. If he or anyone at our club is ever found guilty of any offence, racist taunts, misbehaviour etc, then they deserve what they get from all of us.But to read (in the Tele of all places ffs) some idiots attempt to make a name for himself and for half this forum to immediately side with them is pretty sad really.

How about some support for our players. It only seems to be because it was Tahu and not someone else. I can't for the life of me understand the hatred towards him.

It seems to be because he didn't play to the level expected of him. Can someone tell me who did???

Tahu is an immensely talented footballer and we should all be wrapped he wears the blue and gold. I hope he does next year too.

That didn`t happen at all, F. P. I think almost all the posters prefaced their comments with "IF Tahu said that, then ........."

No, you`re certainly not the only one. But you haven`t taken the time to think the situation right through, that`s all.

That is absolutely, exactly right, Eeliminator. Most white people haven`t got the vaguest clue about how deeply offensive some of their comments can be. So it`s not even necessarily about intent; it is often just total ignorance. I don`t know about you, but I reckon us white merkins have some responsibility to educate ourselves a little bit about the culture and history of the aboriginal people.

so when someone at work asks me "who's joe?" and I go, "you know the black/asian/whatever guy over there" - that's bad? ..... this is the innocent situations I am talking about

Come on, Strider, don`t be silly. If you said, "that black/asian/whatever merkin" then of course that`s different, isn`t it?
If someone at work asked you "who`s Joe?" would you say "Oh, he`s that black merkin, over there?" I f**king hope not!

Maybe it would be better to leave colour out of it.
You could just say "that bald bloke around the corner" or "the fat chick over there".

Ive just had a thought.
Maybe they could structure these "Footy Carnivals" in a similar format to the Special Olympics whereby players are graded as to their "blackness". This would have like playing versus like and insults could be graded to suit?
Another option could be that they have a limit of say 3 such insults allowed per player?
Just trying to think laterally here.
