Titans ready to sack Walker

By Steve Mascord
April 18, 2007
TROUBLED rugby league star Chris Walker risks having his Gold Coast contract torn up today after another off-field misdemeanour.
The former Queensland Origin wing's NRL career could be ended when a club disciplinary committee reconvenes this morning to hear evidence gathered by managing director Michael Searle about an incident in a bar at the weekend.
Walker, who is due to return from a broken thumb in two weeks, is understood to have been ejected from a bar for bad behaviour.
"We've investigated an incident and, in the interests of not denying anyone natural justice, there's not much more I can say," Searle said last night.
"This is not a criminal offence, there are no victims, but the players' code has been breached and that is something we've been very strong on from day one."
The Titans were generally perceived as the "last chance" for Walker after years of strife at Brisbane, Sydney Roosters, South Sydney and Melbourne.
After being rescued from the rugby league scrapheap, he recently joked that he would prefer to be referred to as "reformed" in newspaper articles.
But Searle said there was no clause in Walker's contract that he would be subject to zero tolerance, and he would not speculate on the likely result.
He said the disciplinary committee had been formed according to corporations law. He declined to name the panellists.
"The committee had a meeting today and we adjourned while I gathered some materials overnight," Searle said.
"We will reconvene tomorrow."
Walker's agent, Chris Orr, did not return calls last night.
NRL chief executive David Gallop said: "Gold Coast have advised us that they are dealing with an issue and they are keeping us informed."

some things never change, if the titans let him go, you'd have to say that this cat has just about run out of lives. Then again, theres always England.

If true, de-register him. Worse than Mason. Let's see how many bites this one gets.

there's no quote in that article that would lead me to believe they are going to tear his contract up. it actually says there is no clause in his contract that states he'd be subject to a zero tolerance policy.

another media beatup... walker is a moron... but i don't know if this will be the end of him.

that comment has to come from a blue-eyed bulldogs supporter doesn't it?

I could run through the list of off-field incidents Mason has been involved with during his time and compare them to Walker, but I fear my account would be banned, given the sensitive nature of inidents involving the former! That in itself speaks volumes.

Wow he got kicked out of a bar. Big deal.

He seems to have been well behaved up to this point and after a long stint of no football he made a slip.

If the Titans are the type of club they claim to be than Walker will be disciplined and offered any assistance needed

Could well be a beat up, you can be ejected from some joints for being told youve had enough and arguing the point.....
"Youve had enough"
"Awww...hic, no I havent, one more pleashe?"
"Nope, out you go."

Just wondering do any other clubs have their own disciplinary committees??

He's trying to be the next Julian O'Neill but doesnt have the same flair with his drinking as 'Jools'

The Titans will probably give him a written warning, first breach type letter but he will play for them again. Its their first year and they dont have the depth to let him go, especially after the Steve Turner debacle.
