While TNA maybe a lost cause to the point where decisions like these don't matter and won't affect the company, it doesn't change the fact that I think this is a terrible idea.
Now, like a lot of fans in the IWC, I like Eric Young. I actually think he's one of the more comedic acts in the entire industry and has the versatility to play an effective straight man...but only to a certain point.
The problem is, that point doesn't correlate with the TNA championship, or at least it shouldn't. By handing Young the belt, TNA has trivialised their championship at a crucial time in the company's history and while I'm sure the minority of the audience feels good about themselves, it does nothing for the promotion moving forward.
JUST like it didn't do anything for the promotion when Chris Sabin won the championship the previous year.
TNA had to persist with Magnus awhile longer and only hand the championship off when A) It was clear he was no longer effective in this role or B) A new face had emerged that had won the support of the crowd and deserved a run. For mine, none of those events had occurred and at the end of the day the only achievement this publicity stunt has acquired is weakening whatever credibility Magnus had acquired over the past few months.
