Joe is out dealing with family issues. I'm thinking this could be a transitional period to get the belt off Magnus and onto one of their stronger heels like Aries, Roode, or Storm.

The push was too little, too late.

Is anybody even going to touch on the elephant in the room?

The presumption being made that Eric Young was crowned because he's in some way like Daniel Bryan?

Underdog wrestler with a scruffy beard who had to compete in two matches against the Corporate 'paper' champion.

Clearly following the leader...and it isn't a smart thing to do.

Young has had a beard for a long time now. It's not like he grew it recently to cash in on the Bryan stuff.

Young has not been feuding with Magnus and the Dixie Nation. Really, nobody has lately except MVP and his occasional allies.

The only real similarity is that he won two matches in a night and that he shares an incidental cosmetic resemblance to Bryan.

I doubt he'd even have won had Samoa Joe not been a late withdrawal from proceedings.

Nobody is claiming it to be exactly identical but the similarities definitely stack up to the point where the decision was most likely made to mirror and ride the coat-tails of the Bryan situation.

Timing is the key issue, then there is the identity of his opponent being eerily similar to that of Orton (ie the undeserving corporate champion). Going further, the man he was feuding with has been in the past accused of ripping off another wrestler in the WWE...who just so happened to play a major role in Bryan's ascension to the top...hmmm...

For a company that has often been accused of stealing ideas from the WWE and being a second rate promotion, they honestly cannot afford to make these sort of moves. Yet, here they are, again.

Accused of stealing ideas, from who? A bunch of death riders in the IWC? The business goes on every week with dozens of angles playing out at a time. I could look at several things both promotions have done/are doing and say the other did it first, or that was done 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 20 years ago etc.

If anything, What they did with Young, and even his look, reminds me of a Randy Savage type against the odds victory more than it did Bryan. If fans don't chant "yes" then nobody gives a shit.

Young has been feuding with Abyss, who is Magnus' lackey in storylines. So I guess that is his in for the angle.

I will say that at least TNA are trying new champions, which is something in the past they have avoided.

I wouldn't have picked Young personally, he's only just started to develop that serious edge after years of comedy, but TNA's audience seems reasonably loyal. They fluctuate in the ratings roughly around the same area without any significant growth or loss. Young as champion won't do anything to change that.

The effect of Jarrett's GWF will be interesting to see.

The general public.

Ask the quote on quote casual fan their thoughts on TNA and the most likely response is that it's a second rate WWE. Yet, here they are again trying to capitilise on the momentum the other company built.

It all goes back to that McDonalds analogy that's been posted time and time again. TNA is never going to compete with the WWE, so offer something different.

They haven't and here we are with this rushed and stupid decision that's going to go as well as Sabin winning the championship.

Not arguing TNA are second rate to WWE, that's like saying NSW Cup is second rate to the NRL.

So nice to know you're on the pulse of the general public. Like I said, IWC bitches just finding an excuse to be negative and bitch. Nothing new here.

That isn't my sole argument.

The point has been flogged to death but TNA should be trying to present itself as a viable alternative to the WWE, instead of following it's trends.

For mine, it's just another reason to dislike this decision to give Young the belt. A moment like this should feel like a genuine pat on the back...instead it just feels motivated for all the wrong reasons.

Chris Sabin winning the World Title in hindsight wasn't a good run, but to be fair I don't blame him. He was booked so poorly after winning the title that the only option they had was to move it back to Bubba Ray (another who should still be chasing the title), and Sabin hasn't been booked well since.

I believe Eric Young can be built as an upper mid card babyface, instead of his current role as opening comedy act. Putting the title on him while rushed, I think can work. He will need a strong heel to go against him, and as much as I love the Mag Daddy, he just isn't that bad. I think a Young vs Roode program could be excellent, playing off the 10+ year TNA guys as well as their previous run in Team Canada and holding the NWA Tag Titles together.

Sabin was booked much the same way Rey was when they give him the title. It made it impossible for him to stay over.

I would have booked Sabin losing the title much better...

Have AJ Styles screw him, being jealous that Sabin was not only the one to decrown Bully Ray but possibly save the company and thus be the face of the company. Have Styles be convinced that he is the franchise, not Sabin or anyone else. Build a blood fued through to Bound For Glory, which gives a triple main event: World Title match + Styles/Sabin + Lethal Lockdown for control of the company...not to mention a potential Angle/Rampage match which Spike blew.

If they book Young as a Savage like champion (often dominated by bigger guys, but never gives up and always finds a way to win.) then I think it would be a good move and make the reign worth something.

Then bring back Joe as the monster who beats him as it would make him look more legit as the guy who finally put him down.

All I could think of while reading this post was ODB as Miss Elizabeth
