Smith said some things at the end of the news conference regarding the Fox deal. Maybe all spin on his part but he sounded positive where the negotiations were going. Grant also seemed to talk up the rights a bit as well. Maybe it's not all doom and gloom?

I may be reading to much into this, but when the pommy reporters tried to say 'you aint going to meet your 1.7 billion target' he kind of had a smug look on his face like the reporter was way off on what the target is, and replied with a 'that's YOUR target'

That pommy reporter sounded like Darren davidson, Lachlan Murdoch's puppet that works for the Australian.

Even by rugby league's lofty standards, this has been a strange week:
- Player arrested in New York after telling a couple of women that it was the night they were going to die
- Penrith sack their coach, who most think is pretty good, to replace him with someone most think is pretty shit
- Manly decide John Hopoate would be the perfect choice to coach and mentor 16 to 18 year olds
- CEO quits suddenly
- One of the best role models to have been in the NRL is charged after assaulting his wife

At least you are never bored following this sport

I'm prepared to accept some of what Smith said at face value, perhaps he decided he had done enough in the role and needed to move on.

I also accept what Grant said about being in a different position and needed a different type of CEO.

The absolute obsession that that there is some sort of crisis around pay TV rights is all coming from FOXTEL and News Corp. That may be how they see it but Smith and Grant did a good job of conveying the impression all is under control.

For a start there is 2 years to sort it out and it seems like progress is being made.

My impression is we will expand to 18 teams so FOXTEL gets the extra Saturday game it wants. Given that impression is right, it is probably just down to haggling about the finer points of the deal.

I am sure News / FOXTEL are glad to see the end of Smith, I am far from convinced they had a hand in it. They might like to think they did, but again they are the only ones running that line.

lol that dickhead Hooper talking up Greenberg, looks like he is News limited chosen boy. IMO Greenberg has been an utter failure the game has gone downhill since this myth has been head of football.

I thought Grant pretty much shut down the idea of Greenberg as CEO, must of watched a different press conference to the Fox reporters
