A tyranny of distance! How the f##k does the tyranny of distance have any relevance in this discussion?

We can't rationalise or expand our competition cause the country is so big? What!

And if this tyranny of distance is such a negative then how come it doesn't effect the big bad AFL, or the BBL, or A-league, or Netball, or the ABL, or the AIHL, etc, etc, etc.

And who do you know that what I am saying is false if you're not reading it? Or is it simply that you either don't understand it or can't respond to it.

Also using your tyranny of distance logic the Sydney clubs should be the biggest best attended clubs in the country cause they are all so close to each other, and that simply isn't the case.

So inconsistent. Aren't you? The only consistent thing about you is your dribble! Repeatedly I have supported expansion with additional new clubs on new areas. At the same time you do not erode the longstanding Sydney clubs as they are the very essence of this competition. Their proximity to eachother is a strength of the code. It creates significant local and cultural rivalries. Other codes are waiting for RL to give^gift them more presence in Australias largest city yet we have pelicans like you advocating less Sydney clubs? Shame on you!

If properly promoted and priced to satisfy plenty then the game will have such crowds. I refer to Easts v Souths a few seasons back. Nearly 60000 turned up to a club game. These clubs are not being marketed well enough and the draw plus pricing may be factors in this.

In the ideal world we’d have the fund8ng to go to an eventual 22 club comp but in the real world the nrl can’t afford to go beyond 16 clubs. So in the real world you have a stark choice, stick with what you’ve got and hope it’s enough,
or create space to bring in new, potentially more lucrative areas.

Nrl are damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

Not really. The NRL is underachieving in marketing and developing the code . So their is significant improvement still to occur. Pretty sure additional clubs will bring additional revenues so lets see what pans out. Remembering the super league disaster brought about 14 teams and we now have 16. So things are not set in concrete PR.

Not really, they’ve improved 400% in last ten years, from an income revenue of $180mill to an anticipated $500 Mill plus, and still can’t afford it. I doubt we will see growth like that again in the next decade or two. If they can’t afford it on $500mill it’s doubtful they ever will.

Ever heard of CPI?

Ever heard of increased market share giving increased profit and turnover? As pointed out before: rugby league is underperforming in Sydney due to poor marketing , scheduling and poorly targeted & lazy development work. This as an improvement area , along with additional clubs in new areas around Australia would increase the codes market share. This is a way forward.

Haha the irony here..

Brisbane 2 mill potential target audience... Can only muster 30k members and 35 crowds every 2 weeks...

Now THAT'S underperformance

Fully agree. And the continued shunning of another top flight side in that city is both a business and sporting embarassment. Imagine a genuine local derby in that city. Many of us are aware that half of Brisbane dislike the Broncos and the other half follow them. It's so obvious and pathetic this monopoly that the Broncos have insisted upon over many years.

you can understand a corporation looking out for their own personal interests, when something benefits a broader audience such as the state or the national competition, you have to look at the people that should be above the broncos in a position of power as to why they are allowed to coerce the outcome they have....the qrl need to show some balls and stop being a paper tiger, and the nrl need to take the decision out of their hands if they can't

It would be great if we had officials within the Broncos club itself and the league that can see the exponential benefits of a rival team in Brisbane! Surely its a win/ win allround for the code?

Im talking actual rugby league people thinking for the benefit of the game. I would also suggest that a guaranteed full house with a derby game would be a lucrative .

they're all sellouts because of murdoch, the buck stops with him mate. it doesn't matter how much paul white "loves rugby league" forcing them to break their monopoly opens the risk that the market might increase but they get a smaller piece of it (whilst giving some of theirs away) and whilst they are driven as a listed company of the ASX they won't be supporting it.

We know this!? As you rightly stated it needs to be from the league but it would be even better if the Broncos appreciated the greater overall benefit to the game. Just would like some genuine regard and decisions for the code. Might be wecomed after years of neglect?

There are families of bears fans disenfranchised and the ones i know have mostly switched to the thwannies or given up entirely

Glebe and Annandale? What year is this and how do you know they families of these clubs fans did change ? Could be the bulk of waratahs fans by now

Youve convinved me. We should bring back the Bears...

And all of the BRL teams too, AND the local Illawarra teams AND the local Newcastle teams. 50 team comp because apparently every street needs ts own team....
