Back to Greenburg, he's now been in office less than 2 years so probably still too early to boot him. Shame with Grant going next year would have been a good time for a new CEO to go with the new chairman.
Awaiting the 2018 strat plan and 2017 annual report with interest, will be fun to see how they spin the terrible crowd avg last season

And the disturbing male participation drop off!

Nah, i think a secure guy in one of those roles while the other is settling in is a good thing

Yep, obviously a terrible idea. Never worked before....

You remember that old Brisbane Broncos? smallest team in the NSWRL, didnt even last a year. Newcastle Knight? No one around Newcastle would even remember that name.

NQLD Cowboys, NZ Warriors, Canberra Raiders. Failure after failure after failure. Im surprised i even remember those old extinct names.

Obviously these "City united" teams never, ever, ever work.....

Not one of those teams is even remotely the same situation as what you have suggested.

As the League is going to be the major football code in the USA in a decade, why would you even bother.

Haha the irony here..

Brisbane 2 mill potential target audience... Can only muster 30k members and 35 crowds every 2 weeks...

Now THAT'S underperformance

I agree with you mate - the Broncos are not a beloved team in Brisbane. Their crowd and membership numbers come from basically no other option. We need another NRL team here ASAP and if done correctly will build up to 40k + attendeances regularly alongside the Broncos 30k.

Imagine if it existed already and the rival Brisbane club had the big 3 Slater, Cronk and Smith (all from Brisbane norths). Brisbane 2 would regularly draw 40k plus to games.

This is long overdue and an embarrassment to the code administrators and savvy business acumen!

Thats what I thought! The Saturday local football recommendation was purely to benefit social relevance, player recovery and being able to get to work on a Monday. The 3 or 4 plus extra hours patronage at the supporters venue after the Saturday game is another financial bonus compared to Sunday as well.
I mean youth and senior amateur competitions should be played on Saturday mornings/afternoons and the pro game should mainly on Saturday night/Sunday afternoon.

Even the District comps that are semi professional should play on Saturdays. Ive spoken to many physiotherapists and they all advocate the playing of footy on a Saturday to assist recovery for players. Their also exists an alarming drop off in juniors going to District clubs that are noted for playing mostly Sunday home games. These younger players are migrating to the local union club that plays on Saturdays.

How does afl and soccer compete there when neither of them have teams based in NS? Having 5 clubs within 40kms not enough to get the kids interested in nrl?

North Shore is now Swans and Syd FC capture.

I have a mate who was heavily involved in Asquith RL. They had upwards of 3 or 4 teams per age group in the mid 90s. Now they can only field 1 max per age group and none at a number of ages.

Its not about having to have a team in your backyard and you know that. It is about having the team you have followed your whole life shafted and saying f**k this I will find a team in another sport because I cannot bear (no pun intended) to follow another nrl team.

Great information. This is the type of information that PR and others are ignorant of or cannot comprehend. Its the real world society relevance that is lost when established and well known sides are shafted or compromised.

Only argument I hear for Sunday local football is private schools who force their kids to all play sport on Saturdays

North Shore is full of private schools

Guarantee no rugby-league gets played in those North Shore private schools! Yet other codes get a run? That's a big unfairness that has been repeatedly happening and not just the North Shore private schools. Given that all codes have a presence in public and Irish Catholic schools I see a targeted and consistent "no access" sign for rugby league being accepted as 'normal' by the public at large or they are not aware of this inequity in the private school system toward rugby-league.

Would have lost the 2006 premiership too

This is why they should have thrown in a few united Sydney teams...

No one would expect cessnock or Maitland fans to just drop their team and get behind Souths or Wests, so promoting one of these teams would have been a terrible idea. On the other hand, the Newcastle Knight dont offend anyone with these old rivalries.

Sydney doesnt need to keep every team that has ever run out in the NSWRL. They just need an option or 2 for fans who did not get to keep their team...

It's as much about tradition as just having a franchise......gives it meaning and purpose. It is why we can't increase our crowds because we killed the feel good factor the game once had.

SYDNEY should be absolutely maintaining and fixing up the mess that Superleague caused. You just don't get it Doctor ! The Sydney clubs are the basis and foundation of one of Australia's major sports competitions. These clubs that have been merged and exited from the top flight deserve their place in the sun. The many fans that follow these Sydney clubs deserve their team . Established club brands along with the cultural significance of these Sydney clubs within and outside of Sydney should not be underestimated. These clubs give rugby league both its popularity and its credibility. You dabble with that and you risk market confidence and market share.

Back to the commision it seems a bit light on in real business leadership people at the moment? Won’t be helped by the club reps joining it who will be all about the clubs not the game.

I’d share the link to the current commisioners but like a lot of the website it doesn’t work!

Real business leadership! What about the code itself ?! The code is in decline whilst other codes are picking up on rugby league's lack of progress and laziness in development. Good business can necessarily improve the code. Both cultural strength and familiarity should be used as a market advantage. Any other way is frought with loss of confidence and loss of longtime earnt fanbases. Merry Xmas and Happy Rugby League New Year!

I would like to see a rep on the ARLC that represents non QRL and NSWRL Australian local interests

Plus someone who represents Australia at a international level

What a stupid argument, no one in Brisbane actually likes the Broncos, they just support them because they have no other team? So when you add this much beloved new team in Brisbane, the Broncos will have no fans, yes? So, what's the point of a second Brisbane team?
