After reflecting on the needs of the game, it has been mutually agreed that Todd Greenberg will step down as CEO of the NRL and his employment with the Australian Rugby League Commission will finish up today.

ARLC Chairman Mr Peter V'landys AM said:

"The role of Chief Executive of the NRL is one of the most challenging and difficult roles in Australian sport, with a diversity of passionate stakeholders. ARLC thanks Todd for his contribution to the game over the last 7 years and as Chief Executive for the last four years".

Mr Greenberg said:

"It has been my great honour and privilege to be the CEO of the NRL for the last 4 years. Despite the variety of challenges and pressures I have loved every single minute of the journey. Our growth over the last 4 years has been extraordinary & I am very proud of my contribution to the game.

"I am indebted to the game for the variety of opportunities and experiences that have been provided to my family and I, and we leave with many great memories and life long friendships.

"My sincere thanks to all the stakeholders across the game, particularly the fans who are the lifeblood of rugby league. Their unwavering passion for the game is wonderful.

"I remain in awe of the players skill and bravery to play this game week in and week out & I thank all of them, both past and present for their friendship and support.

"My thanks also to the staff and Executive team at the NRL. It has been an absolute honour to lead this team of talented, resilient and hard working professionals

Andrew Abdo has been appointed acting Chief Executive Officer while a search is undertaken for a replacement.

Whilst there’s still some positive recall for Dave Smith as NRL CEO I can’t see that being the case for Greenberg. Irrespective of the nitty gritty, he’ll be associated with a time of largesse that has brought the game to it’s knees when it should have been in a much better position(Grant & Beattie have a lot to answer for as well mind you).

Good riddance, dodgy snake oil salesman.

I’m sure he can find a safe NSW Labor seat somewhere and he can push his identity politics all he likes.

Guess you'll enjoy the interm CEO who was the Chief Commercial Officer behind the Simply the Best campaign which I'm sure you whinged about.

You think Toddles has done a good job do you??

The bloke is a fraud, and I’m sure Todd had absolutely nothing to do with that commercial whatsoever. It’s hilarious the media got him the job in the first place now people are whinging that it’s the media have gotten rid of him lol.

Frankly, he won't be missed. I could spend all afternoon talking about why but I'm in no mood to bother.

Hopefully he's the first of many bad influences we manage to shake off (Nine).

I've already said that I'm not a Greenburg fan but here is the reality:
  • He has overseen the largest increase in revenue in the history of the NRL
  • He has overseen investment in Touch Football, school programs, and more development officers for the local level.
  • He oversaw the increased focus on membership and fan participation.
  • He has overseen the game improve revenue by taking SOO to potential expansion cities - creating what will be an increasing revenue for the NRL.
  • Implementation of a single review point (the Bunker) which brings it in line with most major sports.
  • He has overseen a large investment in digital media which will improve the NRLs capacity to produce content.

He definitely has a number of flaws and issues, but it would be ridiculous to suggest he was a failure of a CEO.

There has also been a rapid increase in female participation and a women’s comp in place. The nines is a fun tournament as well which has come in through Greenberg’s time. I’ve also felt that the link to regional areas has been handled well. I feared that the city country game being dropped was going to hurt regional fans but they have compensated it very well with NRL matches taken there. He wasn’t perfect there a things he did I really didn’t like it but I felt he did a few good things.
