After having a year off in 2011 the Fairfax Eagles, now known as the Northern Virginia Eagles, will be joining the AMNRL. A lot of hard work and dedication has been committed behind the scenes to make their 2012 comeback a successful one. Players old and new will be seen on the pitch as well as new sponsors. The NOVA Eagles will be well prepared for the upcoming season in 2012 and be one of a number of exciting new club developments to be announced in the coming weeks.
On the back of the recent success of the USA Tomahawks to qualify for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, the AMNRL is continuing to expand the sport of rugby league across the USA. The full 2012 international schedule will be finalized before the new year with Ireland returning in March along with plans coming together for the USA to tour France later in the year, and the Melbourne Storm from the Australian NRL to play a one off international in October.

More information about the NOVA Eagles will be featured soon, along with team administration, coaching staff and home venue.

That sounds very exciting. Are the Storm likely to play the Tomahawks?
That would be great for rugby league in North America. Although the article says "plans coming together", so it's not a done deal. But how can that happen. According to many on this forum, NRL club teams are too busy drinking to play any games after the Grand Final has been played.:D

So the Eagles are moving back to the AMNRL? That's interesting, as they affiliated themselves with the USARL for 2011 (despite not playing).

pffftt. World Cup qualifiers are won solely on the quality and quantity of your ring-ins.

Where's the pro league?
Where's all the expansion leagues?
You don't believe anything they say until it is actually happening in front of you. The rule of thumb with the AMNRL is take what they "plan" and hope that maybe 30% of it will happen, if you're lucky.

They shoot for the moon, and all that happens in America is about a 20% expansion every year for the last 10 years.
Pathetic.

What's pathetic is the continuous undelivered promises provided by the AMNRL management, to the extent where it is a rule of thumb to not expect much ;-)

A match against the Storm could get them huge publicity in Australia personally I think they should come to Melbourne to play it. Perhaps in October they could play the top French clubs such as Lezignan, Toulouse, Avignon and France to top it off. NOVA Eagles sounds like a legit team and should add more to the current AMNRL comp we cannot be discouraging the AMNRL, any development in the USA is good and eventually both leagues will come together. Yes, the USARL seem to be focusing on developing youth, match officials and professionalism while the AMNRL are focusing on growing each year with development in Hawaii, the Midwest and Southwest. In time all will come together. There are already signs of improvement with the USA now at 11 in the World Rankings.

Well done to everyone involved. A tour of France sounds awesome. As for the Storm playing, it could very well be like the Rabbitohs playing in Jacksonville - they could end up playing a Superleague team etc. I know Bellyache has some connections to one of the teams over there. The Knights was it?

Things looking good for America in the build up to the WC.

The AMNRL is focused on massaging David Niu and his mates' egos. Sorry, but that's the truth, otherwise they would not have the attitude that they do towards the USARL. Honestly, I couldn't give a shit about any AMNRL 'developments' because even if they come off, recent history suggests that they will be poorly implemented and run for the benefit of the few rather than the many.

Given it's already been announced that next off season is being considered a 'light' international year, it wouldn't surprise me if the Storm would play a one off in the US during the NRL off-season.

Probably a bit optimistic to expect to see Slater, Smith, Cronk etc. but a decent mix of NRL, NYC and NSW Cup players would still be very entertaining and a great promotion for the club and for RL.

If they're doing that they should play a club side, or the New England Immortals or something.

Some old newspaper clippings from the last time the USA toured France in 1953/54.

There's some site that has old RL games along with heaps of other historical stuff in France from over the years and it has this game, but I've never been able to get it to work.

Have you got a link to the site?

why?

It's difficult to know for sure, but I'd imagine the Tomahawks would struggle to keep up with even a second string Storm side.

I couldn't imagine what kind of a blow-out scoreline it'd be if they played a club side.
