There's two different types of locks running around. There's your ball playing locks, like Norton, Harrison and (some will hate me for saying this) Timmins, then there's the more tackling impact style locks, which Ben Kennedy did so well at the turn of the century. If you're choosing from the latter, you'd have to go with Carroll - no other lock tackles as hard or as effectively as he does as present and he's coming up with the goods every time.

Trent Waterhouse is the best lock forward running around.

he has consistency issues.
Being good 2/5 games doesnt win you selection.
TC is consistent each and every time and deserves his selection.
I just hope he is not suspended for the tackle on wes in the stg game

nobody is going to hate you - but using the words Shaun Timmins and ball playing in the same sentence raise questions about your sanity.

Carroll has a high work rate, and hits hard. But Kennedy and Waterhouse are similar, but Waterhouse has great ball playing skills, and Kennedy is a much more damaging runner.

I disagree with Charlie when he suggests that Waterhouse has consistency issues. I think that's a myth - my view is that his week-to week standard is very high - but he tends to be judged pretty harshly because he potentially offers so much more than the other locks

TC is good, he hits hard tackles lots and will be interchanged with ben kennedy.

as well we have seen time and time again, hes job will be to cover lockyer and protect him from the big nz forwards. A job he does bloody well and it shows with lockyer having the extra energy in attack

thats part of the reason avsterooster, i wont lie there, but he offers more than just that.
Too many TC bashers in this world and most wouldnt know a thing about the game.

I voted no, although not because I think Carroll is over-rated.

I just can't understand how he can represent one country at a World Cup and still qualify for another? :?

Because the International Rugby League will do anything to make it look like a joke.

Tonie Carroll shouldve stuck playing with New Zealand, because its a TEST nation. I wouldntve had a problem if he played for Australia first.

the others, like Tuqiri, Ricketson and Mason, played for minor nations.

They should always be strict on those rules, if you represent a test nation then you shouldnt be eligible to play for another one.

parra fan...just because they are "minor" nations doesnt mean any less.
TC played for QLD in 1998 1999 2000. He was not selected to play for australia in the 2000 mickey mouse cup and was allowed to play for NZ.
You cant be strict on one nation and not the others.
The ARL made a mistake in 2000...thats their prob...not TCs or Lotes, or Ricko, or Mason.
Get over the 2000 debacle and move into 2005. TC is a proud australian and is a class lock.

I will get over if they stop doing it.

I agree Carroll shouldve played for Australia first, he was playing SOO in those years, the only eligibility he had with NZL was that he was born there.

Carroll's a pretty good foil for Lockyer and a pretty good player.
I'm not sure he's the best lock in the game but he's not the worst.
I like that Trent Waterhouse and thought he may have paid his dues but Carroll will do the job.
