It was 150k mate.

That's an average first graders salary! The only reason we didn't match him was because we wanted to upgrade those other 3 nuffies.

It's not hindsight - at the time plenty of people were saying "what the hey?" (hay in parrapetes case)

I mean, if you have the option to upgrade a big, strong, fast, 18 year old, or keep 3 slow, weak and small 20 year olds who have already looked ordinary in first grade, what do you do???

Personally I reckon we could find an Oake anywhere (small prop who gets smashed)
Tautai's grow on trees (slow centres who can't hold the ball)
And Hauraki? (sub par first grade talent all round)

Doesn't take "hindsight" to know that at the time it was poor player retention.

[good call was made on Albert Kelly on the other hand - miniscule 5/8 who can't tackle, kick or playmake --> do NOT offer 150k]

This stuff isn't rocket science...

Spot on OMC, some people really are delusional. How hard was it to see this guys blatent talant?

Sure he was lazy at times, but he was awesome when he applied himself. Thus why Manly swooped.

I remember many of us here(me included) were absolutely furious when he was denied a contract for the losers we kept. Not signing him up is the biggest f**kup we have made since Gallen.

Well I'd be in for Lussick.

We'd be "saving" real money since 300k is less than Poore makes. And Lussick is going to be an excellent first grader. Size, speed and skills.

Mind you, I'd rather we spend the dough on a backrower!

Have you seen this guy play in 1st grade? He has done nothing. What games are you referring to. Ever since I have taken notice of him, he has almost been Manly's version of Lassalo.

I can't remember if I was furious - but simply couldn't believe we refused to match - all we had to do was match the offer and he was bound to stay here (and he even said he wanted to).

Even losing Gallen is slightly more understandable - short little toiler who didn't appear to have any outstanding skill [apart from an enormous heart]. He's more a 'who knew how good he would be' kind of story!

I remember too about Williams. He was very pissed and said so at the time.

As for Gallen, maybe, maybe not, but still a massive f**kup when you lose someone THAT good. I mean when you look at the amount of talent that has escaped us over the years, then one has to wonder, would a Bennett, Bellamy or Hasler run club have made the same mistake, or would have considered a guy with a massive heart like that may turn into something worth keeping?
