Honestly if you're an origin and test player and can't get motivated for a preliminary final than it goes beyond who the coach is as far as I'm concerned

Here's hoping he doesn't bring that pissweak form with him. Hopefully Des gets the best out of him, he's worked wonders with Frank the tank

Is it just me or has he looked more disinterested ever sinc he signed that multimillion dollar deal?

I don't know what is wrong with him. He just seems disinterested during the games.
Several times this season you could see Foran yelling at him to get involved but he just walks around.
Even last season he only played well in the easy games when the other forwards had good go forward and wouldn't do any of the hard work.
Maybe Toovey isn't using him properly and Des might use him properly but being a pro, you shouldn't need your coach teaching you how to run hard.

I'm sick of this excuse that he should be used in short spells, it'd be a valid excuse if his work rate was hindering his effectiveness but he hardly does enough to be tired. He does less in 80 mins than most blokes do in 40

He's more or less been the same. Provides the odd spark but can really go missing.

He just hasn't built on the promise he showed in the back end of 2011 and start of 2012.

Last night was a shocker though no doubt about it. I wouldn't blame Manly fans for feeling a little scorned.

Seems to be a problem that a lot of the larger players either carry throughout parts of or their entire career - plain laziness. 110kg+ monsters who just don't put in the commitment of blokes 20kg less who have to bust their arse off to get their first NRL jersey.

Idris is the biggest bludger - 115kg of nothing. Some pulled their finger out for a season or two - Pritchard, Williams, Taylor, Ryles, Kasiano (see if he maintains 2012 form) but for the most part are really far behind the workrate of the elite NRL players.

Some have just always backed up their giant size with a big heart eg Shillington, Mason, Burgess, Tamou.

Agree with what you're saying RABK although don't know about your latter list.

Tamou has really only come into his own this season, before hand he was a prospect but he had serious flaws that really impacted his game. His defence in particular at times was shocking.

And all you've got to do is ask Easts fans what they make of Shillo's time with them.

Heck, even Mason has had spells where he's been MIA and going for 'soft' options when he's capable of more. This was particularly apparent around the back end of his Dogs stint.

Burgess is certainly an excellent example though. Whenever he's on the field, his ability to get through the hard slog is the best I've seen in the competition.

It makes sense. Since they were kids & going through the ranks they'd just monster everyone with brute strength, scoring at will. Then they get to the big stage & all of a sudden they have to bust their arse, & it shows.

As Andrew Johns said in the early part of the 2011 season, someone needs to buy him a full body mirror, & recognize just how big he is. And as someone else in this thread, send him some tapes of Martin Lang's kamikaze running.

Overrated. Breaks the line on occasion, and makes good meters on occasion, but it seems like for every line break or decent run he hands the ball over with an error. I feel like the Manly forward pack are the most overrated in the comp and Williams in the most overrated in the Manly pack.

All you have to do is look at the number of tackle breaks vs the number of line breaks he makes. He loves running to the line, pushing a few blokes before going down in the tackle. Occasionally he gets a pass away and it makes him look brilliant but that is a very low percentage.

Manu Vatuvai makes a lot of errors but I wish T-rex should watch how he takes hit-ups at speed.
At times when Williams seems to be interested in playing and actually runs the ball hard the defenders always get bumped off and have a hard time putting him down so it is so frustrating to watch him doing nothing

Tony Williams should have looked to his right once or twice over the last 2 years and seen what Gulavao does when he gets hold of the ball. If T-Rex put half as much effort as Joe into a hitup he'd be able to trample his way through the entire opposition team.

Tamou's only what, 23? Props are generally going to take time to hit their straps in the top grade (which is why Woods is such an exciting prospect IMO, playing this well at 21, if he continues to improve he could be a bloody brilliant forward).
