Tonight proved the old adage that a halfback is only as good as the big men in front of him.

My dad thought this of Williams when we were watching him play under 20's at Parra. Didn't believe it at the time but after his first year with Manly, I couldn't argue any more.

On a positive note, Jamie Lyon was phenomenal tonight.

He was so bad. I thought he would have a big one with this being his last game for the club but I can't remember him making one good run.
I know some people say Toovey isn't using him properly but even if that is true, I can't understand why he doesn't get more involved.
For example when Manly were trying to make it out of their own half, surely he could take a big hit up to help out but he doesn't and left smaller guys like Foran to run. He looks very lazy

Next time you're watching a Storm game, player-cam Billy Slater and watch how hard he works off the ball to push to get into the right positions to make the big plays, in attack and defence. He is the best in the business at it and that's why his highlights reel doesn't do him justice the same way someone like Hayne's or Inglis does. It is his best asset, even moreso than his speed.

Then watch T-Rex jog around, only getting involved when he's told to and seemingly happy to let the game pass him by.

That is the difference between the heart of a champion and a guy there for a paycheque.

The old lemon has been squeezed dry at Manly.

Ageing, tired, nothing to prove.

Desire and fitness will be a big problem for them next year.

The whole Manly pack sucked the big one last night, only old Smoking Joe could hold his head up high. Williams always has been a peaheart maybe Dessie can find it for him again?????

Interestingly Lyon was clearly having a harsh word in Williams' ear as they were going off at half time. Lyon and Snake were the only 2 Manly players that had any real positive impact (though Buhrer was also fairly good) in that game and when Foran is forced to straighten up the middle and take hitups you know they've got no chance. When I saw Buhrer getting ready to come on, I didn't realise Ballin had been injured and I thought Toovey had decided to give T-Rex a rest. Probably should have put Gulavao on in the 2nd row, moved Watmough to the left and put Rose in the front row around the 20min mark, not that it would have had much effect on the final result.

Williams will be a different player at Canterbury. Manly were spent, too many injuries. How many needles did King have to get on to the field?
