TBF some may argue that this proves that with less teams there woul be a greater fanbase for the remaining and large crowds such as this would be more common!

Lets be honest how many do you think would be there if it was Conulla v Manly?
Some may also argue that if the team they follow is gone, people will be lost to league, meaning same crowd averages, less total attendance. (for Sydney) More out of town teams will prob lower averages.
How many would lob to see Cronulla v Perth?

What kind of company or business would just plonk a shop/franchise in an area where the customers are have minimal care about the product?

It's like the catholic church building a cathedral next to mecca in Saudi Arabia the heart of the Muslim world just for the sake of the hope of maybe recruiting some new followers, which just won't happen without years and years of money and effort.

The NRL should put teams wherever they have the most support and need to spend the least amount of money regardless if they are in NSW or not. Stick to where you are strong, saturate and cover those areas and then plant the seeds to grow and nurture the code from there.

I am actually of the opinion we can fit one more sydney team based in the Hills area into the NRL.

A heartland team with no real representation. If anyone cares i will explain my reasoning fully.

If the Eels and Panthers merged (Parramatta Panthers) the new team could embrace the whole west/northwest region. 9 Sydney teams is too many, 10 is just rediculous.

Sydney has the same amount of teams in the NRL as melbourne has in the AFL and sydney has a greater population so how can sydney have too many teams if all the melbourne afl teams are doing so well.

If the NRL had just 1 sydney team they would still get sh*t crowds so may aswell have 9 to make up the numbers.

Ever notice how:

-It's almost always people from outside of NSW wanting to kill the Sydney teams.

- People from Sydney who think there too many teams never suggest their team be the one to merge or get killed off, and would give the game away if it were to happen.

I'd be happy to follow a merged Bulldogs.

Westen Suburbs.
Balmain Tigers
North Sydney
Newtown

Melbourne
Brisbane
Gold Coast
North Qld Cowboys
NZ Warriors.
Canberra

I wouldn't be too confident of your 'always will be'.

Mate, what are you getting so cocky about?
Won't be long before there are 2 teams in brisbane. It's only the News Limited connection that has kept you as a one town team for so long.

Once the Broncos, Cowboys, Tits and another Brisbane team are there, you'll finally be on a level playing field.

I am 100% certain that the majority would be happy to see Moanly f**k off out of the competition...

Not me, and I hate the merkins!

I just can't imagine a year without a Sharks - Manly game, no matter what the outcome. Same with Sharks - Dragons.

You see, it's this sort of "tribalism'" that keeps it alive for me. Sharks v GC / Bronco's / Melb / NQ, not so much of an event for me.

YMMV though.

Totally agree. No teams should be killed off, relocation is a much better option than merging.

As would I. I would prefer if we stayed but if it was the difference between staying in the comp or fading away I would embrace it. Even more than a merge, I would happily accept a relocation.

Maybe it is easy to say this from safety.. but still.

Blacktown is halfway between Parramatta and Penrith, so the Blacktown Bulls would be a better merger there.

But then you're moving away from the Hills District and solving nothing

Hold on, they're the Canterbury AND Bankstown - that stinks of merger already

If they merge again, they'll be an anacronym!

I reckon Canterbury, Rosehill, Ascot, Bankstown, BulldogS

or CRABBS is a winner!

Sydney is the comp, always has been, always will be. Just remember the coat tails your dragging along behind the next time you suggest kicking out sides.

When the comp is truely national then the league can look at folding sydney up and re-issuing licences, but truely at this point, the wounds from super league and whatever else are far too deep in sydney, and there are going to be way to many pissed off people that wont be back to sustain. At this point, they wont cut teams, or as i have said do the proper job and re-issue licences in sydney until such time as the market can sustain it.

I love the pseudo-business speak that people always parrot whenever this comes up.

The sport is a product, supporters are now a market, clubs are now franchises.

I think using these words shows are real sophistication and savvy understanding of how things really are. No really, it's just like a Pitt Street in a pinstripe-suit kind of vibe.
