Westen Suburbs.
Balmain Tigers
North Sydney
Newtown

Melbourne
Brisbane
Gold Coast
North Qld Cowboys
NZ Warriors.
Canberra

I wouldn't be too confident of your 'always will be'.
Selectivbe admission of any mention of the chargers, giants, mariners, rams, steelers or reds.

Ever notice how:

-It's almost always people from outside of NSW wanting to kill the Sydney teams.

- People from Sydney who think there too many teams never suggest their team be the one to merge or get killed off, and would give the game away if it were to happen.

Very true. The Sydney haters had their own comp - and Ribot had to scalp outside Swans games to get anyone to go and watch his Origin series

It's going fine... if a club is in financial trouble (Cronulla?) then they can consider relocation. No need for more forced mergers imo, and in a few years the comp will likley grow to include two more teams, so the % of Sydney teams will drop.

I totally agree....

Natural Selection IMO

BUT I WANT A STRICT POLICY FROM THE NRL!

NO FINANCIAL HELP FOR TEAMS IN SYDNEY! - (UNLESS THEY RELOCATE AWAY FROM THE GREATER SYDNEY/NEWCASTLE/WOOLONGONG AREA IE MIN 200KM'S NORTH OR SOUTH.)

To me the NRL needs a name change or make it truly National and have teams in each capital!

Why more Australasian R L or ORL Oceania RL

NRL when we only have teams in 3 states seems wrong too me!

Sydney has the same amount of teams in the NRL as melbourne has in the AFL and sydney has a greater population so how can sydney have too many teams if all the melbourne afl teams are doing so well.

1. sydney has a greater population over a greater demographic area.

2. all Melbourne AFL teams ARE NOT doing so well. North Melbourne, Melbourne, & Western Bulldogs have all received regular assistance from the league over the last decade.

The problem with natural attrition is there is nothing natural about it. It is hampered by the salary cap.

The cap should be increased more regulalry so a greater attrition may take place.

The NRL support for team to locate at the moment is pathetic. $12m to relocate is piss weak. It costs $15m to run a club for a year, so to relocate to say the Sunshine coast, a team needs say $100m redevelopment of a stadium and say around $60m to get a leagues club going, develop identity et cetera. Thats why we haven't seen any clubs even concider it yet... the carrot being dangled is droopy, rotten and smells of cabbage.

Not long ago (It came up when Cronulla were first talking about taking games to Adelaide iirc) Gallop said that if a team wanted to relocate that they'd need to hand the NRL their requests and the NRL would look at it ie: Write them an open cheque if the NRL thought it was a good idea.

That $12M offer is just a guaranteed minimum.

I would not have any westy teams (Tigers, Dogs, Parra and Penrith) merge because this is the heart of RL and they produce the most jnrs. If anything I would prefer the Tigers merge never happened because they are geographically to far apart (Balmain and Campbeltown) but there was not other option tbh. The only change I would like to see is Cronulla relocate to Wollongong/Illawara (maybe known as the South Sharks) team and have the St George have that area (remove the illawara from the team). Alot of cronulla fans would still find it easy travel from the shire (alot of people in that area go to uni at wollongong etc) and the old steller fans would feel like they had a team again. I think then the addition of a CC bears is actually required, it would bring probably 15K fan almost every week (alot of old north fans would follow plus the addition of CC residance to dont like Newcastle and thus dont support them).

Sydney is Geographically alot more spread thus I think we can actually afford more NRL teams in NSW then Melbourne have in the AFL teams (all isolated in CBA, no geographical significance tbh). NRL could probably afford a new team in QLD and Perth and maybe a second team in Melbourne (addition of 4 teams would ake 10 years thou)

Second Melbourne team is about as stupid as the AFL putting second teams in Sydney and Queens.... oh wait.

No. the ideal situation is cronulla either die or relocate. two teams in the southern districts is too many. Thats partly why there is so much animosity between dragons and sharks... both sides know this.

They never should have brought cronulla in in the first place really. Same goes with Penrith and Manly. The whole westy area should have been left for the Magpies. They should have made the older Sydney teams spread out a bit and thought bigger in the late 50s-60s expansion. They should have brought in Canberra and Newcastle then. Then in the 80s we would be looking at 3 South QLD teams and one more. Too late, now teams have to die instead.

The AFL having teams close together is actually a plus in melbourne, due to the cities layout. The teams all share the same grounds, reducing costs and maximising advertising revenue. The MCG being close to the city means its very easy to get to, helping boost crowds.

Would of been better back in the 1980's to not have a Broncos team and just have a League with 5 of the top Sydney teams with 5 of the top BRL teams alongside 4-6 expansion teams.

Nice in theory, but all the money and sponsorship and best players were in NSW. The Sydney clubs was the highest you could go. QLD was pretty much a backwater until 70s, really ending with the 1988 World Expo, the same year the broncos and gold coast entered the comp. It has boomed increadibly since, which justifies more teams now, but back then 2-3 from the QLD cup would have been enough.

Cronulla sharks to move to the Sunshine Coast Qld and the Cronulla region NSW should change it's name to the Sunshine Coast.
