I wouldn't be too confident of your 'always will be'.
Ever notice how:
-It's almost always people from outside of NSW wanting to kill the Sydney teams.
- People from Sydney who think there too many teams never suggest their team be the one to merge or get killed off, and would give the game away if it were to happen.

It's going fine... if a club is in financial trouble (Cronulla?) then they can consider relocation. No need for more forced mergers imo, and in a few years the comp will likley grow to include two more teams, so the % of Sydney teams will drop.
Sydney has the same amount of teams in the NRL as melbourne has in the AFL and sydney has a greater population so how can sydney have too many teams if all the melbourne afl teams are doing so well.
If the Eels and Panthers merged (Parramatta Panthers) the new team could embrace the whole west/northwest region. 9 Sydney teams is too many, 10 is just rediculous.
I would not have any westy teams (Tigers, Dogs, Parra and Penrith) merge because this is the heart of RL and they produce the most jnrs. If anything I would prefer the Tigers merge never happened because they are geographically to far apart (Balmain and Campbeltown) but there was not other option tbh. The only change I would like to see is Cronulla relocate to Wollongong/Illawara (maybe known as the South Sharks) team and have the St George have that area (remove the illawara from the team). Alot of cronulla fans would still find it easy travel from the shire (alot of people in that area go to uni at wollongong etc) and the old steller fans would feel like they had a team again. I think then the addition of a CC bears is actually required, it would bring probably 15K fan almost every week (alot of old north fans would follow plus the addition of CC residance to dont like Newcastle and thus dont support them).
Sydney is Geographically alot more spread thus I think we can actually afford more NRL teams in NSW then Melbourne have in the AFL teams (all isolated in CBA, no geographical significance tbh). NRL could probably afford a new team in QLD and Perth and maybe a second team in Melbourne (addition of 4 teams would ake 10 years thou)[/QUOTE]
Second Melbourne team is about as stupid as the AFL putting second teams in Sydney and Queens.... oh wait.

What about Eels merge with Bulldogs? Parramatta Bulldogs.
Would of been better back in the 1980's to not have a Broncos team and just have a League with 5 of the top Sydney teams with 5 of the top BRL teams alongside 4-6 expansion teams.
Who would of been the 2-3 QLD teams then ?.Nice in theory, but all the money and sponsorship and best players were in NSW. The Sydney clubs was the highest you could go. QLD was pretty much a backwater until 70s, really ending with the 1988 World Expo, the same year the broncos and gold coast entered the comp. It has boomed increadibly since, which justifies more teams now, but back then 2-3 from the QLD cup would have been enough.
