Cauthen could go up against the best in NZ in Telegraph..
Brad Waters - 3/12/2013
Cauthens Melbourne campaign petered out but trainer Andrew Campbell says the three-year-old could take on New Zealands best sprinters in the Group I Telegraph Handicap (1200m) next month.
The form around Cauthens win at Moonee Valley at his second Australian start turned out to be outstanding with the placegetters from the August 24 contest Shamus Award and Long John progressing to win the Cox Plate and Caulfield Guineas respectively later in the spring.
Campbell took Cauthen back to New Zealand after the son of Darci Brahma flopped at Flemington on September 7 but the trainer told The Informant the promising galloper had done well since returning to his homeland.
Cauthen has only had one start in New Zealand for an 8-1/2-length maiden win but Campbell said his charge could run against the seasoned sprinters at Trentham.
"Hell either run in the Telegraph Handicap or later at the meeting in a three-year-old 1200 metres, he said. "Well make a call closer to the time.
"Hell have a jumpout at the end of the month and maybe a couple more. Ill just see how he comes up.
"He had a couple of weeks in the paddock then worked on the water-walker, Hes a big, gross horse and I didnt want him to get too big. He didnt lose a lot of fitness.
"He proved hes up to it over there. Its going to be exciting to see what he does now.
Didn't know where else to put this but have a share in a 2yo colt first starter at Flemington tomorrow in the first. It's name is Chivalry and trained by Kavanagh, ridden by Rodd. It hasn't had any official trials but has been working well so hopeful he'll put up a good showing, if so he'll be tipped out for a spell with the aim being the Blue Diamond if he's up to that level but only time will tell. He's out of Street Cry who Kavanagh has plenty of success with so here's hoping.
It's always fraught with danger telling people before the race about a horse in case they put in a shocker which has happened in the past lol but would much rather risk that before than come out and say it after if he ran a decent race or even won. But it's 2yo's so who knows what the f**k will happen with the babies.
Nice 2nd on debut, was blocked for a run for a while but did still look like he had his chance, looks like he may make a nice 3 year old over further(1600m)
Not a bad run..
You've got a decent horse on your hands..
Yep..it's bred to improve as a 3yo..
