A bloke who used to play second row for Western Suburbs by the name of Bob Cooper probably belongs in the list. I remember a game against Illawarra in the early 80's where he flattened several players. Was suspended for over 12 months from memory.

Eraofthebiff website will have all the stories on these guys.

Triple m probably stole quigs hard work.

Mate I have to agree.

After reading the Triple M article I headed over to Quig's site, and what do you know - Karalius has the most points for the biggest hard man.

Not sure about the rest though.

Nonetheless, it's a good discussion point - especially the way the game is going.

Kevin Ryan deserves a spot IMO. Tough nut all round with a lot between the ears. Was an enforcer for the Dragons throughout the 60's (a monstrous hitter in defense) Also left us to capt/coach Canterbury in 67, and put a lot of starch in that Canterbury squad, which would ultimately bring an end to the Dragons 11 year streak through a 12-11 victory in the 67 prelim.
Def is right up there in my books as 1 of the hard men of league.

Tumbi is he the one that started up his own law firm?

There is a picture of him in the book Never Before, Never Again.

Or am I thinking of someone else? (a mate has the book at the moment).

Yeah that'd be him mate. Don't know about the law firm. But I know he was a barrister up until recently. ALso was an MP in Hurstville back in the 70's

John O'Neill- a tough guy but a real gentleman also. I remember him giving me a free ticket for a semi at SCG in the 80's.

Yep he was tough alright  King hit a 10 stone winger who had his arms held by another Wests player.

Don't confuse tough with thug.

Yeah 1982. Got a record 15 months. Was sent off in the first 90 seconds along with a Steelers forward after a wild brawl. Lee Promfrett ended up with a badly broken jaw.
Guys got less for worse, it was clean up time for the League. Mad times
