Yeah, they're really two separate topics, which get lumped together all the time. Who are the toughest? Who are the best fighters?

It's probably hard for us to assess who the toughest players are, aside from stories of bravado that emerge like Sattler. The true tough blokes just get on with it with no pomp or fuss.

Just because you can throw them, doesn't make you tough.

Just because you are tough, doesn'tean you can throw them.

Ahahahaha SBW, good lord. He'd spend the whole time making sure his hair was perfect and the camera was getting his "good side". Pretty boys should be excluded from this list.

hahaha just saw this....the guy with Carl Webb in his avatar says the guy who easily beat the guy who knocked out Carl Webb in a fist-fight isn't tough enough.

SBW went 10 rounds 1-on-1 (ok, would've been nice if it was 12) with a guy who was beating Mike Tyson for 5 rounds, but apparently he needs to king-hit a few more unsuspecting non-fighters in a scrappy footy field brouhaha to prove his kahunas.

Mick Cronin has to be the toughest of all time, played for Australia long before he played in the premiership but most impressively drove all the way from Gerringong, turning up 30 minutes before the game, never phased by what the great Gibbo would make of it . . . rarely missed a game and played with one good eye at the end.

I didn't mention Webb at all you f**king clown. I said pretty boys like SBW shouldn't be counted on this list of tough players just because they have boxing ability. Would you call Mundine a tough footballer? f**k no.

I wouldn't put Webb in my top 20 tough guys, but I'd still rank him higher than SBW

Geoff Toovey for me. I don't remember him fighting but he is a tough nut.
The guy is tiny but never took a backward step.
I remember seeing him at the shops when I was younger and I was shocked at how small he was.

Haven't you ever watched the 97 grand final? He took a massive backward step off MacDougall that day.

SBW isn't a world class boxer by any stretch of the imagination, but he'd still f**k up that fat, useless plodder Carl Webb. Webb might have a chance if he actually had any cardio and a sports bra wouldn't hurt either

Again.....not talking about boxing ability in the ring, this list was about toughness/fighting on the field.

In terms of the modern game.

Crocker (bottom feeding merkin, still tough as shit)

Foran (in the Toovey mould, gets smashed and comes back for more, never says die)

Mortimer (Rubbish footballer, but much the same as Foran in that is gets smashed and gets right back up)

Luke O Donnell was more of a thug than anything, still would have belted anyone that he came across on the field.

Any player that has busted a nut on the field has my admiration for their toughness (Wallace, Waterhouse?)

Grothe Jr could knuckle too.

Also have yet to see anybody put it on Inglis. Don't know if this is more out of fear than anything else though.

and I have more respect for the SASR soldiers of the Australian Army then any other men on earth, they are truly tough men.

Agreed. A lot of them are only little fellas, too. My mate is a GP in the ADF, what those guys put their bodies through perplexes me. A lot of them go in those 100km 'Iron Man' events "for fun" lol.

I agree with Kurt Angle. Herb Narvo is easily the most impressive on that list. Looking at his Wiki page, that guy lead an impressive and far from boring life. Boxed, played footy, went to war.

These days we've got muppets like Burgess taking photos of himself in the bathroom looking like prison candy fmd.

Jazzer, you can get those GFs here: http://www.rugbyleaguefilms.com.au/Default.aspx

Rex Mossop was a very, very tough man, as was Bunny Reilly.

The Roosters' Kevin Hastings played 6 consecutive seasons (1977-1982) without missing a single game, in an extremely demanding era.
