Nightingale will struggle due to his injury to get back into the side as he will prob miss the reason of the regular season games. oung and Fien will alternate hooker and if Young is to start at hooker, Prior to 2nd row and Smith to lock.

Dont forget if we all listen to Channel 9 Matt Cooper is starting at LOCK!!

Im convinced Wayne loves screwing around with positions when the TV networks ask for the starters :)

Picking the top squad for Benny and Co is going to be challenging
I guess that he’d need to look at respective opponents and pick the best mix
for and given game
Against Manly we need defence up the middle
Against the Storm, cover on the right is imperative
The dogs a little of both and creative attack is required
Etc. Someone on his team will be doing a lot of number crunching and they’ll look at overall mix
In a couple of minutes you can garner and analyse data and this will help to what must be a daunting task
See the following example
T=avg tackles, M=avg missed tackles and Rate= the overall/miss ratio

Player
T M Rate
Michael Lett
3 0 0
Jeremy Smith
28 1 46.5
Michael Weyman
24 1 26.11
Mickey Paea
19 1 24.13
Luke Priddis
21 1 22.89
Dean Young
34 2 22.53
Dan Hunt
28 2 18.73
Ben Creagh
19 1 17.64
Beau Scott
25 2 15.88
Jarrod Saffy
25 2 15.5
Justin Poore
30 2 14.14
Mathew Head
11 1 13.25

16 1 13.17
Matt Prior
31 3 12.36
Jon Green
22 2 11.1

12 1 9.23
Chase Stanley
17 2 8.5

21 3 7.24

Wendell Sailor
3.3 1 4.13
Brett Morris
4.9 1 3.5
Darius Boyd

Total number of games, the teams that we played and respective players marked come into the equation but ultimately a trend line can be drawn to help Benny with his sage like prognostications

Dean Young MUST start. he is a 80 minute footy player. not saying he is a hooker but he must start somewhere in the team. if you dont you are wasting a interchange and damaging the team.

We're talking about a team at full strength though, players like Saffy and Prior came straight back into the starting lineup after lengthy periods on the sideline as will Smith when he comes back. There's every chance Nightingale will do the same and if say Boyd or Morris goes down between now and then Nightingale will slot straight back in if available. You've also included Paea who has played less games than Nightingale.

i know.. i saw that & thought to myself "whoever it was on the forums a few months back saying cooper should play lock will be on here straight away saying "i told you so!" "

You've also included Paea who has played less games than Nightingale.

doesn't mean it's a wrong selection though...

more games does not always = better player..

My point was that being out for a period of time should not discount Nightingale, just like it shouldn't discount Paea (although realistically he won't make it).

im really impressed with merrin the hitups and his metres gained is very good even though he plays a short amount of time. i cant put dan hunt there. hes really pissing me off. his mistakes are so stupid. i have a heart attack every time he touches the ball. if chase stanley wanted to get his spot he needed to perform really well but to tell you the truth he is really quiet and his defence is very questionable. matt prior is too good to play reserve grade he is a very talented player.

this is the team that brings the trophy back to KOGRAH!!!!:D

I agree pretty much 100%

Fein would offer so much more than young, fair enough young has the enthusiasm, but hoonestly that has only shone in previous years when we didnt want to play each other, now every one has that attitude.

In reality, his service from dummy half is poor, he is slow, has some vision but is too slow to get the ball out there often and the opportunity dies.

I really think he would be luck to be in our 17

mine would read:

1. Boyd
2. Morris
3. Cooper
4. Scott
5. Sailor
6. Soward
7. Hornby
8. Poore
9. Fein
10. Weyman
11. Prior
12. Creagh
13. Smith

14. Hunt
15. Paea
16. Costigan
17. Nightingale

18. Young (would come in with an injury to anyone in the pack)

Honestly Fein had a direct hand in what 3 tries on the weekend in 40mins, how often have you seen that from young in 3 seasons?

love his heart, but i honestly cant see his worth, footy is a cruel game!

- i would start with costigan - he is an origin player and we need his aggression especially with the finals around the corner.
- young to start as hooker for the first 30 mins for his defense around the rucks and then bring on Fien with Young moving to the back row.Fein simply wouldnt have the same impact if there from the start of the match
- Smith to start in the backrow
- no room in my squad for Nightingale, Head, Priddis or Paea unless injuries occur.

my team-
1.Darius Boyd
2.Brett Morris
3.Beau Scott
4.Matt Cooper
5.Wendell Sailor
6.Jamie Soward
7.Ben Hornby
8.Justin Poore
9.Dean Young

11.Ben Creagh

1.Darius Boyd
2.Brett Morris
3.Beau Scott
4.Matt Cooper
5.Wendell Sailor

7.Ben Hornby
8.Justin Poore
9. Nathan Fien

Cant find a place for Nightingale unfortunately. Obviously straight in if one of our back 3 missing through injury. That back row of Creagh/Smith/Costigan is far and away the best in the comp.

i dunno but what i saw in the sheds at halftime over the weekend showed me that Young is a certainty for the team. Hornby is a great captain but it was Young who was in their revving up the troops. For a Saints fan to say he doesnt make the cut show how truly underrated he is by some people

Fien can't maintain that quality over 80 minutes at hooker. That's nothing against Fien - he's a good player and a terrific pick up for us - but not many hookers in the comp are capable of it. Smith, Farah and Ennis would be the only ones. The others are near the top but are unable to maintain it and tend to fade in and out of games (De Gois, Payne, Friend) or they share the duties (Ballin & L'Estrange, Aiton & Iosefa, Luke & Wing). Young and Fien need to share it, and it makes sense to a) start with the stronger defender, and b) bring on the quicker player.

u have gotta be joking Pete... You cant see his worth???? u must be 'avin a laff mate...

You know what irks me most bout people who want Young out of the team is that you'd all basically be told where to go by Bennett...

Bennett knows just how important he is to the team... and hey for a team with slow service from there worthless number 9 id say we are doing okay with such a liability in our team wouldnt you say?

Where we sitting on the table again?

Just accept it Young aint going anywhere... and its for the best...

as I once pointed out before if we didnt have Young in the squad, say worst case scenerio and he was dumped totally... We'd have no Smith, Weyman and Fein in the middle with Poore, Prior etc working overtime... we'd be getting carved up...

Fien and young do need to share it, but fien needs to start. His zip, service to the forwards and general ruck play is FAR superior to young. Young was much better in the second row on the weekend. And alas i show you our best team:

1. Boyd
2. Morris
3. Cooper
4. Scott
5. Sailor
6. Soward
7. Hornby
8. Poore
9. Fein
10. Weyman
11. Young
12. Creagh
13. Smith

14. Paea
15. Prior
16. Costigan
17. Nightingale/hunt - prob nighty.
