In my opinion, music elitism is a wank. Unless you're willing to post your own list or you're David Bowie STFU.

So you are saying a forum isn't a place to debate topics?

He put his list out there for others to judge. He got judged. If you don't like it, don't f***ing read it. Simple.

* imo.

Tbh I'm surprised their most recent release (way too much effort to type it) hasn't been mentioned at all. Whilst it doesn't deserve top 50 status, it certainly is underrated. A lot of the time I feel like the only person who actually enjoyed it.

You're an idiot. You're trying to depict us as one of those music elitists - "Oh you're popular so you've sold out."

Nobody ever accused Nirvana of that. They just weren't that good in an era when there were a heap of high quality grunge bands around - soundgarden, Mudhoney, Alice in Chains, Mother Love Bone etc.

That's not to say they weren't important - they were easily the most important grunge band - but they definitely were not the best.

what makes a band high quality?

you are the dickhead....it comes back to a matter of opinion. i just know plenty of people that trot out the same arguments that you are trotting out...with no real substance to it

 I love tough guys who use cuss words over the internet to show how 'intimidating' they are. Bet you're a regular on YouTube as well.

In saying, you're right but I wasn't refering to you specifically, rather everybody who's failed to offer any solid reasoning behind why certain lists aren't fantastic. I mean, music is such a subjective social commedity, it's nearly impossible to dispute a music related issue because there are a lot of factors you have to consider (appeal, sales, lyrics, music etc.).

With that said, I do agree with your opinion. RtCM was superior to DS - which in no shape or form was a bad album (It was one of the better albums of 2008). I would be interested in seeing your list though, not to criticise specifically but rather see what your taste has to offer.

I'm actually in the middle of drafting my list - hard to criticise one's list without having the balls to put their own up for everyone to judge. Either tonight or tomorrow.

And I swore because I get frustrated with people on this forum - every critique is taken so personally and criticised for speaking out. It is a bloody forum - it is an exchange of thoughts and ideas. Are we supposed to say "Oh yeah...great list...bravo" to everything?

There is probably a reason they're trotting out that argument Moffo.

Nice list Alex, nice to see someone pay Gurrumul some respect. That'll be a lot higher up my list, but nice to see it in someone elses!

Alex...

I think it's a pretty awesome Top 50. I'll have to check out some artists on the list.

Psst, Zit Remedy is the best thing to come out of Canada...ever! Forget Neil Young, Zit Remedy is where it's at.

Misses one of my all time favourite albums

Jay-Z Linkin Park - Collision Course

Plus I don't know half the bands on that list.

This sounds like fun.
For this list, I limited myself to only full-length albums, not EPs, demos, etc. Also, I tried not to get too obscure, and stick to mainly better-known stuff.
This is my metal list. I've split it off from other genres since it is my favourite. I might do another list later if I can be bothered.

Metal list (No particular order):

Immolation - Close to a World Below
Psycroptic - The Scepter of the Ancients
Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal
Arsis - A Celebration of Guilt
Decapitated - Winds of Creation
Vital Remains - Dechristianize
Anata - The Conductor's Departure
Gorod - Leading Vision
The Chasm - Conjuration of the Spectral Empire
Deathspell Omega - Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice
Peste Noire - La Sanie Des Siécles - Panégyrique De La Dégénérescence
Absu - Tara
Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness
1349 - Hellfire
Gorgoroth - Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam
Weakling - Dead as Dreams
Destroyer 666 - Phoenix Rising
Destroyer 666 - Cold Steel... for an Iron Age
Heaven and Hell - The Devil You Know (gets included by default because it's Dio era Black Sabbath)
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
Reverend Bizarre - In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend
Sleep - Dopesmoker
Pagan Altar - Mythical & Magical
My Dying Bride - Songs of Darkness, Words of Light
High On Fire - Death Is This Communion
Hypnosia - Extreme Hatred
Warbringer - Walking Into Nightmares
Sacrifice - The Ones I Condemn
Sodom - M16
Agalloch - The Mantle
Wintersun - Wintersun

Got lazy so just made it a 31 album list.
Ask me again later and the list will probably be different. It's just off the top of my head.
