Tottenham have confirmed the appointment of former England assistant manager Franco Baldini as technical director at the Barclays Premier League club.
The 52-year-old Italian recently left his post as general manager of Roma and is understood to be set to look after Spurs' scouting and transfer policy.
A statement on Tottenham's official Twitter feed read: "We are delighted to announce that Franco Baldini has joined the club in the role of technical director."
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has been keen for the club to move to a structure similar to those adopted by many in mainland Europe, having worked with a technical director during his successful time in charge at Porto.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy also favours that set-up, with Frank Arnesen and Damien Comolli both having undertaken similar roles at White Hart Lane in the past.
Levy said on the club's official website, http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com: "Franco is extremely well respected in the industry, possessing an extensive knowledge of players around the world.
"He will strengthen our football management team, particularly in the field of recruitment, working closely with Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood across all levels on the playing side."
Tottenham agree £17m deal with Corinthians for Paulinho - report

Tottenham have agreed a £17 million deal to bring Corinthians star Paulinho to White Hart Lane, according to the Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old has continually been linked with a move to the Premier League outfit, as well as Inter, Chelsea, Roma and most recently Real Madrid.
But it now seems that Andre Villas-Boas has won the race for Paulinho’s signature, having offered the Brazilian club enough money to meet the midfielder’s buyout clause of £17m (€20m).
Spurs are said to have been told earlier in the week they would have to up the ante on a bid for Paulinho, with the North London club originally hoping to pay in the region of £15m.
The Daily Mail report that the Timão have confirmed the deal, even though Paulinho himself said had he will not make a decision until after the Confederations Cup in Brazil.
Check back to Sambafoot for official confirmation in the coming days.
very unLevy like to spend this much on mature players let alone 2 17 year olds

From what I've seen they are very exciting prospects and their price was pushed up by a few other clubs, one being Goons so they must be good
we will need a new CB soon as the news on Kaboom is not good, he has a Ledley King knee and will need to be rested as much as Ledley was at the end, so 2 maybe 3 games a month at most and hopefully we get another few years out of him
