If he gets sacked, I think it's disgracefull - though perhaps he has taken spurs as far as he can? Mind you, with the money he spent on Darren Bent, he could have gone to the continent and bought 2 maybe 3 midfielders. I know you picked up Boatang from Hertha....but he is more for the future.
He could have spent 16m on probably 8 of the starting line up that they played against on the weekend and still had some change :D

Interesting to see the effect it has on Sevilla in the CL.

You know what?

I went to put some cash on him to be the first manager to get the arse, but centrebet took the market down ffs.

yeah, we could have bought Tevez, lol

not happy campers, Berby only one goal all year, Robbie Keane not happy about Bent being picked last week so he kicked up a stink and had Bent relegated to the bench

Defoe has a very lucrative contract but wont sign it, all problems caused by Jol's signing of Bent when we needed mids and depth in defence

The Prince has been playing very well in reserve grade and could even get a run soon, our U/18 just won 6 nil, plenty of depth but that doesn't help us atm

What I understand about you guys singing Boatang is you actually gazumped Sevilla.....they had an offer knocked back by Hertha after which you guys stepped in. I mean, if you're gonna splash that cash around, surely you'd play the kid?

Tottenham 6-1 A Famagusta

Jermain Defoe found the net for the first time this season

Tottenham cruised to victory over Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta in the Uefa Cup first round first leg.

Spurs were 4-0 up at the break, with Younes Kaboul's fifth minute header providing the opening goal.
Michael Dawson scored the second with a close-range finish, Robbie Keane's volley made it 3-0, before Darren Bent slid in for the fourth soon afterwards.
Jermain Defoe scored with a sublime chip and then a superb strike, while Anton Zlogar netted for Famagusta.

Spurs have had a miserable time of it in the early stages of the season, their less than impressive league form throwing into doubt the future of manager Martin Jol.
In trying to kickstart Spurs' season, one of Jol's problems has been which of his four strikers to deploy, which has prompted plenty of speculation about Defoe's status at the club.
Keane and Bent were Jol's choices to begin Thursday's game, while Dimitar Berbatov and Defoe were named as substitutes.
Defoe made his entry just past the hour and lit up the game with a couple of exceptional strikes.
If Keane, Bent and Defoe were all to get goals, it was Jol's centre-back pairing that put Spurs in control of this game.
On five minutes Kaboul glanced a header past Famagusta goalkeeper Arjan Beqaj following Tom Huddlestone's corner.
For the next 30 minutes Famagusta made a game for it and Kaboul needed to be alert to tackle de Matos Fabinho, while Lukasz Sosin might have done better with a headed chance.
Soon after Famagusta's defensive uncertainty from corners proved costly when Dawson diverted Pascal Chimbonda's header past Beqaj.
Two more goals in the space of a couple of minutes ensured Jol probably had to deliver the easiest of half-time team talks.
Keane scored with a low volley, the Irishman quickly controlling Benoit Assou-Ekotto's before arrowing his shot past Beqaj.
Bent missed several chances before he scored, though he was unlucky not to have won a penalty early on when he looked to have been brought down by Lambros Lambrou.
The Famagusta left-back played a large part in Spurs' fourth goal, his miscued clearance leaving Beqaj stranded.
Bent was quick to squeeze the ball home from a difficult angle.
Just past the hour Keane made way for Defoe, who almost immediately extended Spurs' lead with a beautifully executed chip.
On the edge of the penalty area Defoe delicately floated the ball over Beqaj to score his first goal of the campaign.
Famagusta might have been outclassed for most of the match but the visitors did take a goal back to Cyprus, Zlogar scuffing a shot past Radek Cerny.
But Defoe had one more contribution to make as the England international rattled in a shot after picking up a Huddlestone pass.
Given those two goals it will be interesting to see if Defoe starts when Spurs play away at Bolton on Sunday.

Tottenham manager Martin Jol:

""Robbie Keane could have scored three, Darren Bent took his goal and Dimitar Berbatov was our top scorer in Europe last season.

"If they push me all the time it makes it difficult me.
"Jermain is the best finisher in the league around the box but Robbie is our top scorer in the league."

Hmm what would YOU rather. A 3-0 win over Sevilla or a 6-1 win over Anorthosis Famagusta?

That's right, we all know the answer!

They are a no name side so a 6-1 victory means nothing.

or maybe it gives a strike force lacking in major confidence a massive boost for their premier league campaign? it's not always results and points.

5 points was a close game, but at least CATS are through to the GF

Wonder what the Eels/Cats double will pay when they both win the GF
