Andrei Arshavin set to join Tottenham, says Zenit coach Dick Advocaat

Andrei Arshavin is likely to join Tottenham before the close of the transfer window, according to Zenit St Petersburg coach Dick Advocaat.

Advocaat has revealed that talks are continuing between the two clubs, saying: "Last year we sold Martin Skrtel to Liverpool for £10 million, and now probably Arshavin will go to Spurs."
Advocaat added that Arshavin is likely to be withdrawn from Super Cup game against Manchester United on August 29 to avoid injury.
His comments seem to contradict a Zenit statement earlier this week, which claimed Spurs had missed an agreed deadline to sign the Russia playmaker.
Tottenham are still expecting to lose Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United, and the arrival of Arshavin would be a significant boost for the north London club, who were defeated by Middlesbrough in their Premier League opener last week.
Arshavin was widely expected to leave Zenit after Euro 2008, with Barcelona his preferred option. However, his wage demands - and Zenit's £20 million valuation - cooled the interest of a number of clubs, Arsenal among them.
Tottenham have continued their pursuit however, and will now hope to secure the 27-year-old's signature before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Zenit St Petersburg have left Andrei Arshavin out of their squad to face Krylya Sovetov Samara this weekend.
The Russia international has been strongly linked with a move away from his homeland, with Tottenham seemingly leading the race for his signature.
There had been conflicting rumours suggesting the playmaker was willing to commit his future to Zenit, but Dick Advocaat feels his star turn is still not fully focused on the task in hand.
Exit

"I would like to say that Andrei will not be taking part in the match with Krylya Sovetov," the Dutchman said.
"At the moment we need players who are only thinking about the game, and Andrei's head is full of other things at the moment. Because of that, on Sunday it is best for him to remain in St Petersburg."
The summer transfer window slams shut on 1st September, and Advoccat refused to rule out the possibility of Arshavin leaving the Uefa Cup holders before that point.
"As far as his exit is concerned, the transfer period is yet to finish and things can still change," he added.
Expectation

The former Rangers boss also confirmed that he expects Spurs to resurrect their interest in the 27-year-old before the end of the month.
"We don't need to sell players," Advocaat told Bloomberg.
"Last year we sold Martin Skrtel to Liverpool for £10million, and now Arshavin probably will go to Spurs."
It remains unclear as to whether Arshavin will be considered for selection in next week's European Super Cup showdown with Manchester United in Monaco or whether his imposed exile will continue.

If Ramos believes that Bent is his first choice striker than spurs are going to have serious problems. In both games this season he's been a passenger, Spurs are really going to find it difficult if they sell Berba.

yep

got to the game late last weekend and didn't play, got fined a weeks pay 45,000

he's sulking because Manure wont pay our asking price of 30mill

he really has stuffed up our plans

problem is, due to his behavior, no one will want him now so we'll probably get jack sh*t for him

Levy wants 30 million for him...unless a European club shows some interest.

Otherwise he rots away in reserves.

How long on his contract?

another two years, but I think we'd be getting rid of him i January, a fire sale maybe

we'll sell for 25mill to anyone outside ELP

I think we are partly to blame, he is not worth 30mill imo, I think around 25mill that manure have offered is about right

part of the deal with manure is that we have to drop our charge for tapping him up, and Levy wont drop the charges

Tottenhams problem is that they're buying alot of fancy players with no grit. They need some hardworking tacklers in the midfield to compliment Dos Santos, Modric and maybe Arshavin.

They need a Hargreaves, Essien or Mascherano type to compliment them or otherwise they'll continue to get tackled off the park.

You can't compete in the Premier League on a consistent basis if you're not prepared to fight hard for every ball.

It's not just the premier league. any team will struggle unless they've got a ball winner. someone to roll their sleeves uo and compete hard in the centre of the paddock,

And you dont really need to spend a lot of money to do that. I see Blackburn have got Vinnie Grella. I'm a big Vinnie fan and someone like that could have done a job at spurs. You dont need a match winner nor someone to stand out every week. Just someone to sit deep, shield to back four and win the ball. They got him for, what...3.5 million pound?
