Djite parting ways with Adelaide

AUSTRALIAN player Bruce Djite will leave Adelaide United for the more lucrative pastures of Europe following the club's final Asian Champions League group match in China next week.
Though Djite will not divulge the name of the club he is headed to, he was relieved to finally resolve his future after drawn out negotiations with United that caused him to unleash an extraordinary tirade against the club's hard ball tactics.
Ostensibly speaking to the media about his recovery from a hamstring tear in time to fly with the Reds squad for their pivotal match against Changchun Yatai -- the winner goes through to the next phase -- Djite used the conference to attack the club's negotiators.
Djite said United were making his progress to Europe impossible by putting an exorbitant transfer fee on his head.
According to a club official, Djite was at the time unaware his management and United were concurrently smoothing out their differences to free up his departure.
"They know as well as anyone that if they put a certain price on my head and want to hold other clubs to ransom, then it will be impossible for me to go," Djite said.
"So if they're going to do that, then they're not literally saying ‘we're making you say', but look, if they turned around and said `pay us $2 million and you can go', no-one's paying $2 million so these sorts of things aren't helping anyone's cause at the moment.
"I won't tell you the figure, but it's ridiculous.
"If I told you the figure you would all laugh, that's how ridiculous it is, and we're still in negotiations."
Djite's frustrations were also related to his claim that United had continually confronted him with deadlines for him to sign an "average" deal to stay in Adelaide.
"They haven't been very helpful. It's a big decision and they haven't given me much time, so not too happy with it in that respect," he said.
"The club throwing ultimatums around and saying we need to know now, a week, two days, that's not being very understanding and it doesn't work like that.
"If Manchester United want a player they're not going to say `we need to know tomorrow, otherwise don't worry about it'. It takes time.
"The season's almost finished there, the transfer window here isn't open for another three months, so even if I signed tomorrow I couldn't go for another two months or so anyway."
United are also bracing for the imminent departure of fellow national team representative Nathan Burns, and Djite said that it would make some sense if they were both to leave at the same time.
"If he goes, if he does go, it's going to be harder for me to stay, not like we follow each other, but it would be a big change, a massive change for the club," he said.
Adelaide coach Aurelio Vidmar has been at pains to try to hang onto both Djite and Burns, but Djite laid none of the blame for the contract wrangle at his manager's feet.
"He's been a fantastic coach, during the season we were underachieving, but here now you can see how good a coach he is when he's got a full squad to pick from and tactically he can organise the team very well," Djite said.
"I owe a bit to Viddy, because he gave me my first start here, and he's been very good to me but I've got to look after my interests as well."
