I feel the same. I have always thought Leilua would end up as a ball playing prop and do very well in that role. Right now we don't seem to have an adequate replacement for De Belin - if he comes unavailable - so Merin rpeplacing Graham and used as a prop/lock seems to make sense to me.

Leilua under instructions from Flanagan could have been something special. I don't really know why we have to move two steps back before taking one step forward. Leilua is a local junior and is not on a high salary. Our priority should have always been to keep him. Merin should always have been a replacement for Graham or if De Belin not available, a replacement for De Belin.

I had my reservations about Leilua but whatever his best position the fact remains that he was only 23 and on the way up. With Tariq Sims due to turn 30 at the beginning of the 2020 season and the probability of a 30yo Merrin starting in the 13 jersey in place of De Belin, we will have an ageing and injury prone starting pack.

Speaking of being injury prone, I wonder if any of Mary's overseas training courses have given him some common sense in relation to players playing with serious injuries. Sims was quoted this morning, after bilateral groin surgeries, that he was severely restricted in his movement last season but felt he had to play to compensate for the loss of De Belin and other injured players. We ended up with the second worse defensive record. If a bloke is unable to move laterally in RL, surely he is a major liability. Another example of Mary's criminal neglect of younger forwards like Ford and Timms.

If JDB is convicted, Merrin could be a solution as a middle forward.

but as a swap for Leilua, why would Saints do that.

Leilua is a skilful edge forward. He is not a middle forward.

From this I can only deduce they have decided Ford will be better than Leilua.

Time will tell the tale.
Lucky said that he was enjoying the move to the middle last year.

I have my doubts that Leilua has the toughness or aggression to play in the middle against blokes like Klemmer, JWH, Papalli etc.
Props often take time to mature. I can see Lucky maturing into a very good prop. He has to make the transition from edge backrower to middle forward. I would have given him the time to mature into a good prop.

Where did he say that?
I don't know where he said it and I don't care where he said that he was enjoying his move to the middle. The fact of the matter is the he did say it and it is a pretty stupid question that you ask, but I have come to expect that from you.

Why don't you contact Lucky yourself and confirm that he did or didn't say that he was enjoying his move to the middle.

That’s your opinion. Where did he say he wants to be a prop?

So.. At the moment it’s your opinion..

It’s pretty easy to say if you saw it via the Dragons website or maybe read it in an article..

Don’t start personal attacks just because you’ve been caught out talking shit..

Find out for yourself where he said it.
Don’t get so defensive..

You’ve posted something as a read ‘fact’ that goes against what most of us believe..

So just curious as to where we can all read what you read so we can all be on the same page..

JDB will be playing for us next year never fear. And everyone will love him again once he’s chopping blokes down left right and centre.
I have no idea what makes you so confident. From what i have heard (cannot & will not elaborate) it's not looking that promising for JDB unfortunately.

His signing is warming on me. Moving back home will keep wifey happy, starting a family and he brings a wealth of experience to the team. If pre season is as tough as they are saying, he should be at NRL fitness level by the start.

Short term fixes and one year solutions are not what the Club needs at this point in time. We need our talented juniors to be developed and be appreciated. There is a long list of famous Dragon's juniors who provided our famous club with excellent service over long periods of time. I see Leilua as a young budding Beatson cut on the eve of his breakout year. Leilua will find his new coach tough but fair. I have not doubt we will regret letting him go.

To the contrary what is coming out from those around and within is the opposite (cannot and will nit elaborate)

As usual muzby jumping to conclusions because someone doesn’t dance to his tune
Your complete inability to accept posts on face value and just discuss it on the basis of “a given” shows your propensity to play the man which you always deny doing

I agree, wish we kept him. Water under the bridge now.
