I can see this happening within the next 2-3 years in our summer

Still have the tri series in ODIs, but maybe condense it down a bit

Both series to have best of 3 finals

Thoughts ?

Anything more than 6 tests, 6 odis and 3 t20s (in a combined summer) will be a very tough sell to the players and public.

Especially with all the domestic cricket aswell.

agree, however we have a 12 game tri nations series to come this year, plus the finals, and the two t20s. I can see them cutting back the ODI tri series, and making a t20 series happen. So similar amount of games they have now, except probably bigger dollars for CA due to the t20 lovefest

yup same here

I can smell it coming unfortunately
Chairman Victorian just luuuurrrrves 20/20 now, remember when he wasn't a fan and it was steady as she goes???? Now he has gone Gaga over it to the detriment of Aussie cricket IMO.

Regarding the tri-series format in the past, it has generally comprised of 12 ODIs during the preliminary round + best of 3 finals. However, there was a shortened tri-series in 2004/05 with only 9 ODIs during the preliminary round. In 1998/99, there were 15 ODIs during the preliminary round. With the advent of T20 cricket since then, I don't think we will ever go back to 15 ODIs.

Also, this is controversial but I know a lot of you will agree with this point: we shouldn't let countries like India screw over our schedule. We generally finish our international season in early February but because India came out here later, we don't finish until early March. It will be beginning of NRL season by then, and also kids have been back at school for over a month. It's going to be very hard to get ppl to the tri-series games that aren't held on weekends once school starts.

I've said this before and I will say it again: I have no problemwith 12 ODIs, but what I would do is that the games involving the neutral teams should be taken to regional areas. This would be the non-Australian game of a double header played at WACA, Adelaide Oval, The Gabba and Blundstone Arena. This would be the perfect opportunity to take the game to non-city regions and with proper promotion, would sell out and get more than just a few thousand that would turn up at those test venues I mentioned. Newcastle, Canberra, Albury, Launceston, Geelong, Gold Coast are 6 areas where I'd love to see international cricket played at.

Not quite right, the South Africa tour in November is/was the reason to blame for the late finish. We have to be fair here because SAF go to NZ in a couple of weeks, so the usually played late Feb-Mar fixtures of SAF v AUS in SAF could not be played this time around.

The SA tour was not originally part of the itinerary hence why it was onlyb2 tests. W were supposed to go to Bangladesh prior to SL.

I like your way of thinking, however how do we tell CA that a 12k sellout for a ODI in Albury is a better proposition than a 55k gate for a t20 in a major city ? This is what we are up against. Call it greed or good business sense?

The ICC has restrictions on how many T20Is can be played in a home season to prevent the format killing long form cricket.

I think it's currently locked at either 3 or 4, unless of exceptional circumstances (I think England are allowed to have 5 because they had a broadcast deal with Sky during the Sanford Super Series which fell through when Allen Sanford went to prison, so they had to add a couple of random matches to the schedule otherwise Sky could sue the ECB).
