If.....when.....the Aussies get destroyed in the final by GB the series would have high levels of interest. Even if it's close it'll gain interest in Australia.

None of us can gauge just how much an Aussie series loss will have on the int'l RL scene. That's what's so good about annual tri-series with a final, it maximises the chance of an Aussie loss far more than three-match series.

If the Tri Nations is brough to Australia it will be a complete flop.

To be honest, we probably wouldn't get the same crowds as they currently do in GB, but I'm sure that once poeple get used to it being scheduled in the League calender, it's popularity would grow signifigantly.

They used to get pretty decent crowds to GB tours of Australia, I'm sure that there are a lot of League fans like myself that really miss the tours of old and would jump at the opportunity to go watch Aus vs GB fixtures. Especially here in Brisbane.

League in general is enjoying another surge in popularity in this country, the powers that be would err badly by not taking a series to the southern hemisphere in the near future.

I don't think crowds would be a disaster. You just have to promote matches well in advance. GB have also done well with discount ticket offers.

If you played matches in many different markets (lik my proposal) you get less overkill and a bigger chance of good crowds at each match.

I think we're judging relatives here, and not absolute figures.

The last time GB toured here with no publicity there were 31,000 at the SFS.

7 matches in total, we've played 4 and 3 of them have been under 20,500.

The fourth has been 38,000.

With a full strength NZ team and some marketing I could easily see 25,000 in Auckland vs Australia. Probably 20,000 in Wellington vs GB.

The rest:

25,000 in Townsville.
22,000 in Newcastle.
20,000 in Gosford/Canberra.
35,000 for group game at SFS involving Australia. One major positive this series has had is most RL fans are still switched on after the GF, which is a new element.

About 40,000 for the final in Brisbane.

It'd obviously be higher crowds than the 17,000, 19,000 and 20,300 we've had in 3 matches.

Geoff Carr quashed any ideas like this in yesterday's SMH. Basically since there is no provision in the TV rights contract for extra money when extra internationals are played, they wouldn't get extra funding for the tournament. Therefore they are reluctant to host it.

They also believe that the post Grand Final matches wouldn't sell well in terms of tickets (another excuse for their own inability to market games).

The comments re: the TV situation are credible but surely there is something they can do? It irks me that the ARL games are covered in the NRL deal

The other point of post GF attendances is pure laziness.

NZ should host, with Suva and Port Moresby getting 1 game each, whether it's a trial or something to keep the small nations interested.

I think that the tri Series should be come a Quad Series if it comes down under, with PNG and Pacific Irelands to enter a combined team. It seems a bit of a waste for teams to have the week off and there isnt the luxury of being able to play France, like they have in Britain.

.

Disappointing to hear that, with the success of this years series surely they could line up a multi national company to underwrite it, I've still got my fingers crossed that the ARL will agree to host it next year.
