It’s not conventional but is JA as a bench option with Drown playing centre in the last 20 to add some creativity/extra attack an actual option? It’s definitely something different.

I know it was only trial (and yes I know it was probably just BA testing it, in case of injuries during the year), but our middles play big minutes, so it’s not like we are wasting an interchange…..

Any reason why it wouldn’t work? Also doesn’t need to be used every week either…

why does the extra attacking option in the last 20 have to normally be a hooker…

drown could even be pushed to the middle of desperate for points…,

I reckon Haze Perham being trialed at Hooker for a bit of spark might be a better option.

I don’t get the rationale behind this. JA is no better in attack than Drown and significantly worse in defence. Pushing Drown to Centre I assume you’re then moving Waqa to the wing and Russell goes off? I don’t think that adds enough benefit either, particularly when you now have JA in the defensive line.

I reckon you'd want your young developing halfback playing week in week out developing in reserve grade. Playing 14 in first grade would most likely affect JA development.

I have full confidence in JA to play 80 minutes as a backup (i.e. when a starter is unavailable) but he's a waste of a bench spot. If we must shuffle the team mid-game (like if we lost a winger or centre) and Drown needs to move out wide I'd prefer Matterson or Cartwright cover the halves.

Though Cartwright seems to be well down the pecking order.

Sure I’ll get onto that once I verify it was all Ennis’ genius that got us playing so “differently” to how we did last year

Irrelevant who it was mate. The point is it has finally been recognized and now they are trying to address it.

The point I was making is that I and others on this forum have recognized this seasons ago and were howled down by some boofhead posters.

Yeah not sure why this hasn’t be tried…

reckon he is bigger / better version of Smith

Can he tackle and I mean make many consecutive tackles and can he pass accurately to both sides of the field? Has he the nous to pass or run? Has anyone seen him enough to know if he has these types of qualities in him? We know he has some toe and can catch a ball, but what else do we know?

He would have to totally transform his game and mentality towards the game. It is a massive difference going from Centre, Winger, Fullback to Dummy Half.

It is something that would take at least a season or two of training and playing there permanently and there would be no guarantees as to how good or successful he would be. Would he even want to put his head in that position and get knocked about like that?
