I'm sure we look sharp during training runs as well. Thats all it was.
The point though is that we are now training in this new style which is what I and others were asking for and others here kept telling us that maybe we were or how would we know? Well we knew because we primarily played a one dimensional game and the players every now and again would tell us in interviews that they didn't train much in certain types of style or play.
So now we have video evidence from the head coach telling us before the Penrith trial what they noticed we lack in from last season and what the extra focus was on during training. Red zone defence and variety in red zone attack. The commentators now call it connectivity. Translation, more bodies in motion, decoy runners and footwork before the line and offloads. All stuff the best teams do extensively.
Will we be able to do it under pressure against the best teams? Who knows, but at least the coaching staff have now recognised it and will hopefully keep working towards getting it right.
When Trent Robinson talks about the Roosters playing Roosters ball or Rooster style of play, this is what he is referring to. When all the players are playing connectively in both defense and attack they are constantly in sync and aware of what their roll is and what their team mates are doing. Everyone in the team is moving and working toward a purpose. There are very few settlers or hitups for example or one out plays without a purpose. Penrith and Melbourne when the Storm had C. Smith also play/played like this.
We on the other hand relied on our power game way to much and would suffer flat spots as the season wore on and also mostly lost when it counted against these better coached teams.
So it is a great thing to hear BA finally start to fixing this very glaring problem.
