Trial result 42-4 loss

Guys it IS only a trial. Although the signs aren't too good at this stage, it doesn't matter. Round 1 is where it counts, not now. I remember we hammered the Sharks 44-0 in a 2008 pre-season trial. Everyone got all excited by this and then we went on to lose our first 7 games and our season was all but over at that stage.

I can easily dismiss this as a trial game but we need to be in a more positive frame of mind for Round 1 against the Chooks.
We need something to aim for & i would have thought that we should have been more hungry for victory than this.
How are we going to prepare ourselves for this game if there is nothing to motivate us ?

Souths have a terrific team. To sure things up though, Russell Crowe needs to get Alan Jones onboard to deliver a couple of his rousing prematch speeches. Anthony Mundine will have some involvement with Souths so thing look promising

It all hinges on Rusty then but if we have another season of underachieving then do we blame Rusty entirely or just his business strategy of making us the most envied club off the field re: sponsorships, marketing, promotions etc but only achieving minor success on the field.
Rusty has taken this approach on his own accord so he will soon realise that the team will soon have to deliver but if they dont then i'm sure there will be another multi million dollar sponsorship waiting around the corner to pacify all those who ever questioned why the club has gone down this road.
Win, lose or draw my membership fees for 2011 & beyond is guaranteed so dont panic Rusty, i'm a diehard & i aint going nowhere.

As I have said before trial form doesn't worry me. The problem will be is if we continue these losing ways in to the premiership.

We have a good starting 13 and a good coach in John Lang who has wona premiership. Their is no reason why this team should not be successful this season. Though injuries could cause us a lot of problems.

Lets wait until after R.5 and see how we are travelling then. If we are 0-5 or 1-4 then I think we could be in some trouble.

How did Asotasi go?

From my vantage point 30 metres behind the posts I struggled at times to see exactly what was happening but I thought Roy was one of our best. Gedes looked ok as well. Wesser tried hard all night. Falloon looked good and peats looked sharp again when falloon was off. Problem was when the markers were lazy and falloon or peats caught them napping there was no one going with them hitting a hole. Capwell played strongly. Unfortunately he is a Titan now. Had a couple of long runs and threw the last pass to two or three tries.
Farrell always looked dangerous when he was running the ball but the defense was a bit sus down that side with the first two tries being scored down his and talanoas wing. First try was very soft.

I agree on all points DC.
We should at least show some patience & wait until at least R.5 before we panic about our chances in 2011.

Guys not real happy about the trial but I am more worried about what Lang had to say he has been working with these guys for the of season and if it none of it went to plan well crap you cant say anything good about it can you.

I am hoping that all it is a few of these guys need to blow some cobwebs out and whilst I am concerned I will wait until R5 as well before I go a slit my wrists.

Seems to me you need some-one with playmaking ability at full-back, would take alot of pressure of Sutton and Sandow

It's strange that Talanoa and Farrell were playing on the same side. Usually Tulz would play on the left wing and Farrell would be inside Merritt on the right.

There is a massive question mark over our halves. Our 5th tackle options have always been poor and we have never been able to sustain pressure. We need to be more patient.

I'd like to see Inglis playing at fullback, much like Hayne for Parra, as a second 5/8th. It might take some pressure off our halves. Thank christ it was only a trial. Let's see how we go round 1 before crucifying the boys. Hopefully Sutton and Sandow can find something over the next three weeks.

Sandow is and has always been over rated. He has had long enogh and is going backwards. Sutton plays one out of five good games. We need to punt them both. Sadly with the rabble in charge of signing and re signing ( see wesser and Talonoa) we will try to keep them

early days , lets wait for season proper and best 17 on field.
I would rather lose preseason games versus blowing our trumpet because of winning preseason games ( like prior years ) and also would rather come home well versus being a early season wonder.

Whoop-de-doo. Why did it take the premiers until a few weeks before the season to sign sponsors?

agree.. only a club with no direction and limited pull would have that problem, wouldn't you agree big sam?

by signing a deal so close to the start of the season, surely this means that the world of business has no faith in the team or the brand...

oh.. hang on...

Ah, Muzby. Do you think I'd be that stupid? If you noticed our players on Oprah's show, filmed in the middle of December, they were already displaying the Star City logo on the jersey. The deal was done in 2010 and it got our sponsor international coverage. Not bad for 9th, eh?
