Fundamentals have been an issue for the entire tenure of Arthur.

I’ll forget about pre 2017 cause of the salary cap stuff but 2017 our defence kept us in close games in spite of our mistakes, 2018 was the opposite and last year once again our defence ultimately kept us in close games again or individual player efforts.

Our defence hasn’t even been that good but it was enough to get us to the finals 2 of the last 3 years despite our many fundamental errors.

i don’t think we play much as a team either in attack we seem to just hope that someone like Moses does something special to keep us in games just like he did today.

I’m not necessarily shitting on Arthur either I’m making an observation In general.

I’m also not basing this opinion on just this trial cause it is only a trial and means nothing ultimately but those traits that we’ve seen for a while were back again (shit when attacking in the 20 or just simple errors) last week and this week.

I’m not even going to question the players anymore either (not that I’m one to hate on players like a lot on here), i think we are not prepared enough on the training field in terms of fundamentals as we seem to give every player a case of the dropsies no matter how good they have been previously.

Anyways I’m excited for the season to start and will leave my judgment until i see a few meaningful games.

It's a trial.
Trial form from every team has always been average for as long as I can remember.
It's amusing how seriously so many take matches like this.
I enjoyed it for the spectacle, the chance to see the Eels in action, the chance to see some of our back up squad and the fact that it gave the local community a huge boost this afternoon.
Great effort from all involved to take this game to Bega.
In fact Suity most teams have average form for the first couple of rounds of the season proper. It just seems like some people want us at our best now or just assume that we won’t improve as the season goes on.

In my opinion penrith will have a good season this year. Api is the missing puzzle piece for them. Yet we matched them even though we were error riddled and dominated in the ruck. Certainly areas of concern but if those areas improve like you would hope then we probably hammer penrith today and I think they will be a top 8 team. Wether we can match it with the storm or roosters will depend on how much we can improve in these and other areas. I’m fairly confident we will be competitive in the comp even if we aren’t good enough to trouble the top dogs. As far as BA goes I love him so I am bias. However if there is a better coach out there then I’m all for them being our coach. I don’t think there is any definitive better options, there is possibly untried options that are better but the risk in replacing BA with one of those is they are just as likely to be a worse option as they are to be a better one.

He hasn't said it for a while but he often used to say he was happy for us to take risks as long as we were prepared to defend our mistakes. Talk from Moses, Gutherson and Arthur's during/after the game today indicated we wanted to go set-for-set with teams, which means getting to our kick as the priority.

Funnily enough in the Fox post game show when asked about Moses’ chip’n’chase Arthur talked about how he wants Mitch to use his creativity after earning it off the back of defence. It’s only the 9s and one trial but fmd Moses has looked incredible in defence so far.

He really has. I thought he'd always be a weakness in defence but in the past couple of years he's improved out of sight. Putting on a bit of weight has helped a lot.

Some of the wrist slitting over TRIAL form is laughable. I’m starting to long for the days where trials weren’t televised.

My gripe with our attack over the past two/three years is the Nrown fourth tackle settler. We’ve looked clunky at times too. Hopefully it’s rectified.
