Warriors halfback Stacey Jones is poised to play for the rugby league club for the first time since 2005 next Thursday night.

Jones, 32, ended an 11-year 238-game stint with the club by scoring a match-winning try with the last touch of the Warriors' National Rugby League match against Manly on August 27, 2005.
Jones transferred to the Catalan Dragons for the 2006-07 seasons in the English Super League and "retired" last year.
He is set to make his return in the Warriors' opening 2009 NRL trial against Melbourne Storm at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton on Thursday.
Jones, who worked for the club as a kicking coach in 2008, announced on November 7 that he had signed a one-year deal to return for a 12th season with the Vodafone Warriors.
He has been training with the squad throughout its off-season and preseason programme.
While coach Ivan Cleary won't confirm his line-up for the trial until later next week, the signs are Jones will be involved in the first of three preseason matches. He has been named in a large squad of players to be considered for selection.
New signings Denan Kemp (Brisbane), Joel Moon (Brisbane) and Liam Foran (Melbourne) are also slated to play for the Warriors for the first time next week.
Ex-North Queensland forward Jacob Lillyman will miss the Hamilton trial, although he's back in full training after shoulder surgery and is making good progress.
Also not being considered for the Melbourne clash are World Cup-winning Kiwi prop Evarn Tuimavave (neck), Michael Witt (quadricep) and new hooker Lewis Brown (hand). Along with Lillyman, they're expected to be considered for the Warriors' other two trials against North Queensland at North Harbour Stadium on Feb 22 and Gold Coast in Lismore on Feb 28.
Warriors squad for trial against Melbourne: Leeson Ah Mau, Patrick Ah Van, Nathan Fien, Liam Foran, Ian Henderson, Aaron Heremaia, Lance Hohaia, Isaac John, Stacey Jones, Denan Kemp, Aidan Kirk, Epalahame Lauaki, Kevin Locke, Micheal Luck, Wade McKinnon, Simon Mannering, Ben Matulino, Joel Moon, Daniel Ob Regan, Russell Packer, Mataupu Poching, Steve Price, Sam Rapira, Herman Retzlaff, Jerome Ropati, Malo Solomona, Ukuma Tab ai, Brent Tate, Elijah Taylor, Manu Vatuvei.

I went to the Development squad game on Saturday.
The Warriors squad played a Northland invitation side.
The score was about 60 - 0 to the Warriors but it was played hard and fast.
The Northland side showed that they had only a few sessions together but warmed to their task in the second half whilst the Warriors looked sharp and fit. Some good kids in there but I couldn't get any names; there was no announcer or team lists.
They had a good pair of prop's, one tall and slim and one closer to the ground and wide. They made a lot of ground for the warriors. As well they had a good half and hooker and a very damaging centre.
Good game to watch. A crowd of about 400 which was good seeing as the game was played at Taipa and the Warriors website said it would be played at Kaitaia. Temperature just over 30 deg.
I would love to see these kids play again.

Can anyone tell me what happens to them now? Do they stay together? Do they play together?

There were a couple of kids in the Northland team who weren't too shabby. A lot of talent around, we need to channel it and see it doesn't go to waste.

At this under 18 age a lot of kids give up and go on the booze with their mates. Hope some of these guys make it to the top.

In short, no they don't....something I have always found to be peculiar.

They train together as a unit a couple of times a week, but other than
that, they go back to their clubs. Depending on injuries, form etc some
may get called up to NYC.

I have long suspected that the Warriors sign them up simply to keep them
out of other clubs hands.....but I'm a cynical old bastard ;-)

At the end of the day there are many disappointed youngsters who give
the game away.

That's the truth (don't know about the bastard bit). I doubt any would be called up to NYC this year when they already have 40 something players in the squad.

The short stocky prop could've been Carlos Tuimavave from Mt Wellington. He's a little ball of angry - a very good player.

Yeah, he's a funny bugger.
