Starc was the first, Wagner the second to be recorded at 160 in tests, both bogus IMO

Others were ODIs, or net sessions or myths

second ?

nah

I'd say about 5th, Tommo, Shoab Akhtar and Bing all over 160 km prior to Starc registering his 160ks. There may even be another one who's name I cant remember

Not in tests, read my post

It was a full ball from a very tall bowler. The speed gun tends to like those. They arent really seen as official records because there is no uniformity in testing. Either way starc is plenty fast. Who cares. He was certainly up over 150 which is crazy speeds

Cricket fans care. This is not limited to trainspotters.

From baseball fans to cricket fans - sports fans care about speed and who is the fastest, and what the fastest ball was, and how fast was it?

Its quite typical sports fan behaviour. We understand fastest does not mean best. But in some ways, the ability to bowl fast, really fast, impresses us. And the batsman's ability to play the fast bowling also impresses us. Its very entertaining and interesting. Also - pace is a very basic metric to grasp and comprehend. Its pure free from the batsmen who fielders as to how it was bowled fast. Its just the bowlers ability to hurtle an object at pace out of their hand.

That is some of the reasons why Starc's supposed 160+ test ball made news all over the cricketing world. Because cricket fans care who is the fastest and the next fastest and so on.

But we all know the speed gun has issues. So just take each result with a grain of salt. Starc is a very fast bowler. Its all going to be ok kiwis

No, we're just taking his 160km/h delivery with a grain of salt. Well I think many are just dismissing his 160 km/h delivery altogether.

And Wagner is not a very fast bowler, despite supposedly bowling at 160. So no, its not ok.

What the world needs now is a genuine 160 kmh bowler in tests. It would make for great entertainment and reinvigorate interest in the game.

Atul Sharma threatened, but never eventuated. Had he succeeded, there was scope for cross athletes failing in different sports to take up cricket.

Thats all very odd ?

There has never really been any "160kmh bowlers". There are guys who might have hit that mark a few times.

Thers have been very few who can maintain speeds above 150.

Not odd at all. I'm saying that Wagner and Starc are not genuine 160km/h bowlers. It would be excellent to have one.

You're now bringing maintaining that speed into the equation for what, every delivery in a match, series, year?

Besides Thommo reckons he did. He thought he could bowl at 180 kmh. Ha.

I'm saying it would be good for someone to come into world cricket and light a fuse of interest with their extreme pace that gets tongues wagging. gets people talking of Lee, Akhtar, Thommo, Tyson, and Thommo again.

In baseball they reckon we have already seen the fastest pitch ever because the ligaments and twitch fibres that cause pace, are not overly related to muscles to be worked out in the gym. Now I'm not a sports scientist, but I hope that is not true for cricket as bowling is more complex (but restricted at the elbow) than pitching in my humble view. I hope we see someone bowl faster than we have seen before.

Starc was averaging over a long innings on a flat wicket 146. He bowled plenty over 150. Thats pretty fast dude.

Wagner was averaging over a long innings prob mid 130's. He has bowled heaps of deliveries at 140+ (before that test and after). But 160 - that very fast dude. There were no 158s or 159's. Just one magic ball.

Watch the spells of the fastest deliveries of bowlers; they creep up the pace as they warm up while finding more gas in the tank to deliver with.

Anyway, pointless argument, it appears that JJ was right and that Twizzle was wrong to correct him in the manner he did.

he's definitely fast, but not 160 fast - that's scary - Shoaib, Lee, Thomson, perhaps Holding, Tyson

Starc is next tier - fast, very fast

Well yeah. Well its a professional sports debate.

Since when was Leagueunlimited a forum dedicated to feeding the starving and ending civil wars in Africa for example?
Just don't think it's that big a deal, Starcs ball was debatable but he was in the Middle of a quick spell and Wagners was just a flat out mistake.

Hah. Either way, they both suddenly jumped in pace to 160. Starc from 150 and Wagner from 135. Any birds around when Starc bowled? They both seem like mistakes to me. But that's just me. And Craig McMillan. And JJ.

Just us three.

And a lot more of us.

Huh? Wagner bowled his "160" in NZ.

But full marks for trying to create a "grew here flew here" divide in the forum. But from what I've seen - a lot of your own compatriots have had enough of you that they write very unsavory comments about you.
