Some good use of music for tries in rugby union internationals in early 2000s by Channel 7:

anyone know what this tune is at 5 minutes 40 seconds?

They also used an instrumental version of Underneath The Radar by Underworld for their intro and also try replay music in one season I think in early to mid 2000s.
It's called Strength, Victory, Honour by Neil Sutherland, see here

Sorry for the really late reply, stumbled across this thread last night and LOVING the 80s try music.

Just wanted to post that I'm looking for the same music as the quoted post - it's some sort of "Holy Grail" Hunters & Collectors soundalike. You can hear a bunch of variations in this video during the interviews with the All Blacks at 2:40
At 4:35 you can also hear another song that was used by Seven for replay music (during the Andrew Walker interview). I'm almost worried these 2 pieces were internally created, especially the one you posted since they have the stripped down variations.

I think they used Underneath the Radar in that game and during the Lions tour in 2001.

Also, if anyone used to watch the Shute Shield on the ABC in the early 2000's, they used The Offspring for their intro (Original Prankster) and replay/highlights music (Million Miles Away).

First track again is a variation of Strength, Victory, Honour without the orchestral hit sound. The 2nd track you mentioned at 4:35 is from the same album it's just called Strength. Both tracks here

thank you shauno100 for the strength, victory, honour track
No worries, i had been looking for it for a long while also and coincidentally got a match from the replay footage using Soundhound app, somehow it detected it behind the commentary.

Dancin’ in the Street by the Network Music Ensemble was used as Try Music by Channel 10 Sydney in 1991. It looks like I have found all 5 tracks from that particular year.

How good would it be if ch 9 went all out with retro production for retro round ?

Music under try replays, old school score graphics, retro replays transitions ... etc

I'm kinda hoping the Las Vegas games will be broadcast with ESPN style graphics and in NTSC format so it has that American broadcast feel :D

Found another one of those 85-90 tracks that Channel 10. Anne Dudley’s Galactic Challenge.
Thank you so much for finding this, and so many of these great try replay tracks from the vintage 80s coverage! Its greatly appreciated the effort you put in.

Do you think the slightly higher pitched version of that track is closer to what they used on air? Is that why you uploaded 2 versions?

How confident are you that you can also get the last track remaining, the full clean version of the intro theme of 84-86, that was also used for try replays 83-90? First 2 minutes of the track is in this 1985 intro video with Ray Warren talking over it...

The end of this 1984 outro has the clean ending of the track...

I really liked this intro music Hollywood & Zorba played 1988-1990 seasons at the start of a game on 2GB radio, if anyone knows the track please let me know, it plays in the first 4 minutes of this video...

Also can anyone ID the Channel 10 State Bank Big Game intro track from 1988 heard in the first 30 seconds at the start of this vid...

First one is Making the Grade by Graham Preskett and the State Bank one is an instrumental version of the 1988 Winfield Cup promo by Swanee.

Greatly appreciated! When I had a listen to Making The Grade on youtube, the first comment mentions 2GB, and that they used the track as their intro from 1982 to 1992, but the track was released 1984, so not sure which season in the mid to late 80s they started using it, if anyone knows please let me know. Perhaps they started using it prior to 1988, but the earliest I remember it was in 1988 as a Balmain Tigers fan kicking the football in the backyard and getting energised every time I heard those first few beats of the track as it alerted the audience that it was 3pm game time.

Edit - I just listened to the 1985 State Of Origin game 2, and 2GB did use Making The Grade as the intro music, but a much shorter version, a 25 second edit of the song. So its likely that track was used as the 2GB intro 1985-1990 (but not in 1982-1984 their first 3 years), and Hollywood and Zorba left for 2KY in 1991.

The track is Making The Grade (A) version. On the album theres also an alternate (B) rock version.

If you listen to the first 4 minutes featuring the on air 2GB music intro I posted above, compared to the original version, 2GB edited some parts of the intro out, to make the first 45 seconds of the 2GB intro include more of the dynamic middle part of the track (during the flashback Balmain try and voiceover guy game preview) then they return to an earlier part of the track and let the track play from that point until the end. I used Audacity to replicate myself a copy of the edited and rearranged on air 2GB version.

The tracks showcased in this thread started by davi just remind me of the greatness of the 80s so much, and it shows how much sports broadcasting can be enhanced with the choice of quality, well suited, impactful music.

Thank you for ending a nearly decade long quest!

Might be pushing my luck but just wondering if we ever were able to ID these 2 tracks?
Obviously the 1988/89 intros would be great to find but as mentioned they seem to be instrumentals of a song made for the Winfield Cup promos so are probably buried deep in an archive somewhere.

The 1985 one we are still searching, although I have a strong feeling it’s a track from the De Wolfe Library, but the 1987 one is Task Force 3 by Parry Music.
