Tupou deal may push Shillo out

KANGAROOS back-rower Anthony Tupou is tipped to re-sign with the Roosters this week, although the move could force teammate David Shillington from the club. Shillington, a contender for a Queensland State of Origin jersey after an impressive start to the year, is being chased by the Dragons, Bulldogs, Raiders and Souths for next season.

The Roosters want to retain Shillington but will struggle to fit him under the salary cap if Tupou agrees to a three-year deal to remain at Bondi Junction.
Tupou is weighing up a massive offer from Manly but said it would be almost impossible to leave a club he described as his "family". "My heart's at the Roosters and I really want to stay," Tupou said. "It would be hard to find a family club with all the mates I've got there now. That's hard to find and that's worth a lot in itself. It's where I've debuted and I've grown a lot at the club, hopefully into a leader. That's why I want to stay so much."

Likewise, Shillington wants to stay put. But the Roosters won't be able to match the money on offer elsewhere after signing up big-name recruits Willie Mason and Mark O'Meley during the off-season. "The Roosters have signed a lot of big players around me so it would probably be hard to fit me in there," Shillington said. "I've been here for five years, I love the club and we've got a good future the way we're heading. Freddie [coach Brad Fittler] is taking us in a good direction, but that's not always the way it works out with footy with the salary cap. I'd like to stay here but if I can't I'll look at my next best option."

Shillington said his goal was to get an Origin call-up after being on the fringe of selection in recent seasons. "It would be great to play with Nate [Myles] against Willie and Ogre [O'Meley]. I'll use the things they teach me each week in club games against them in Origin."

We'll have him if he wants to come home.

this is great news if we re-sign tupou imo tupou must be locked up hes a playmaker and a huge part of our goal line attack, and creating with his offloading ability and is a great defender. As much as i love the way shillington is playing this year tupou > shillingtonX2.

What is going on with Nuts at the moment, is he playing reserve grade or injured or what?

I've heard elsewhere he's on the outer for some reason.

I wouldnt mind Shillington coming over to the dogs lol about time we got one back, and he is really playing well this year, has more aggression in his game and we need that in our front row so we may see him in the blue n white.

NSW cup i believe. Can't see him making it to FG barring injuries, and even then we have some younger blokes performing well

He hasn't played in any grade this year.. He is as good as gone now.. He won't play First Grade again at the Roosters.. I reckon Shillo may head to the Bulldogs or perhaps up to the Gold Coast.

yup i think hes come back from injury and i think that last year was his final game with the roosters, things are going great this year and if it aint broke dont fix it plus id rather see mickey paea and Frank-Paul Nuuausala or move mason to front row and have soliola or maubs at second row ahead of him in case of injury.

Im sure the roosters will "struggle" to figure "something" out before realising there is a way to keep Shillington, i can see the quote now.

"yeah it would have been a shame to let him go, thankfully though we managed to just squeeze him in".

i cant wait to see who else they "squeeze" in.

I reckon he might head to Saints. I think Saints will clean up in the recruitment area ... they'll pick up alot of good players due to the simple presence of Bennett. If Shillo has to leave Easts, he'll undoubtedly choose Saints so he can learn more under Bennett. As will most of the good players up for grabs imo.
