Since the mid 70's Parra has been the No1 rating team(till the Broncos) in the league when they go well with St George and South Sydney next depending on their success on the ladder. Day light is next. That is why I have on numerous occasions said that our management under Fitzy has squandered that opportunity/advantage massively.
Now we have new management and I still don't see much change, even though it is still early days. That said we need real big end of town business types on our board. Isn't there even just one of these types available and willing to jump on board? So far not even a murmur from anywhere or anyone.
I just don't get it. Essentially the number one club in the league and we have middle of the road leaders to guide us. Shakes head.
So I have a few theories on that one.
1) No one wants to get involved with a club that is continually sniping at itself.
2) We are a "Battlers" club, and as such are associated with the Battlers, this is a problem for anyone without a powerful brand themselves to overcome the stigma of taking over the battlers club.
3) Our fans while numerous, are like most Sydney Fans, FICKLE. Rugby League has relied on the Poker Machine since the 50's, Fans don't understand the real costs of running a football team and expect it to be there for them regardless. Even those in the know still believe that the club will survive for free.
It won't be until we lose a club in Sydney, that the fans will start to get it. The Bears is seen as a loss to the Central Coast, with only a few Real Bears fans holding on. If one of the Big 3 Sydney club, St George, Parramatta or Canterbury went arse up, then maybe the Sydney public would get the message. But until then it is going to take a solid 20 year of publicity about memberships, and club faltering because of lack of membership until the game will be free of the Fickle nature that the pokies will bring it home.
The Other interesting thing is with this report is you are talking about how often our Brand is on TV in a significant way, so either our colours, logo or name.
I used to work part time with OzEmail's Marketing team and we would get reports like that every year about the coverage on the Football team (the Raiders) and the BJR.
One of those reports said that for Bathurst alone, having our name on the car and having the car on the front row and the leading Ford gave OzEmail about $2 Million worth of advertising for the day (based on how long the logo was on screen vs the cost of 30sec spots).
Now I know how much we paid per car, and lets just say it was well under the figure for a years worth of racing.
Sponsorship is about getting the Name out there. So according to this, our club or Brand has been on TV more often then any other Sydney league club, and only behind the Broncos in terms of all leagues club.
The amount of times we have been on FTA this year is 13 Games, the 3rd most of Any Sydney club, and the 4th in terms of All clubs, with only Brisbane on 18 (with there sweetheart deal with 9 Brisbane) The Dragons and West Tigers with 15 each.
The Other Sydney clubs are only 1 behind with the Bulldogs, and Roosters on 12, The Rabbits have 11 games.
Now Most of these clubs will have at least 1 more game on FTA with them making the semis and I would think these numbers are based on last years TV numbers were Parramatta were on FTA tv 18 times including the Grand Final.
So if they are saying our Brand was on TV in a recognisable way for $86million dollars, I wouldn't say they are wrong. If they are saying that our club is work $86 million a year in TV rights to the and the Broncos $89 million, considering the rights package is only Valued at $83 million a year, then we could sell the TV rights for 26 rounds of Eels vs Broncos for almost $170 Million a year, Bugger the other clubs off :roll::lol::?
